Being a big Beatles fan I love my Hofner ignition bass. I sold my Epi thunderbird IV bass to finance two HB guitars recently.

They come up fairly regular. As the in house brand for the Matsumoku factory they were popular and well advertised. If asked who played what back in 82 I could tell you who played a Fender and that Henry Thomas played a Westone. He was the bass player on the tv show Rock School. Your photo isn't showing so was it the short scale Thunder II with the jazz pickups? Here's some more Westone goodness. Wish those fellas were mine Yep back in the early 80s when choices were limited Westone was a serous contender. They started making cabinets for Singer sewing machines, then when Singer changed the design had to look for other work.It was then the bosses discovered they had luthiers working as cabinet makers so they built for Aria Pro,Washburn etc. Here's a later one of mine from 85

Not sure why it isn't showing, but it was one of these (just in black): (I much prefer these 2 colour combinations)

Got some up on the walls in the living room. And another 30 in floor stands like these. Now I'm definitely out of space. Unless I move into the spare room (idea)

My (old) herd (there are several more basses now). With a different type of wall-hanger you can store even more basses in the same space.

You have an amazing collection Blablas! If you let me in there for a few hours, I would come out left handed!!

You have an amazing collection Blablas! Thanks. That's something I'd love to see. It took me over 50 years to do most things with my left hand..... And every once in a while it still screws up. But on a more serious note, with most of the things I do I learned myself to do them with both hands, only when there is some coordination required between both hands my left hand is the more dominant one.

My latest DIY project is moving along nicely, its closing in on the finishing stage. The neck is finished, only the nut needs to be done but that'll be one of the last parts that's being made.

You lads clearly have issues, something like a "Bass Compulsive Disorder" Holy cow when I showed my wife this photo above she just said to me "dont even think about doing it!" Who me, I would never do such a thing (hide)

My DIY 12 string project is almost done. In principle it's finished! Only I was stupid enough to break the two high D strings due to a brainfart, tried to tune them to high G. New strings are ordered and once they are in all I need to do is finish the setup on this beast. Already been doodling with the remaining ten strings and I think I know what tuning I want: E, b, e - A, e, a, - D, a, d - G, d, g - this sounds huge! I was a bit disappointed in tuning both the extra strings as octave strings, the sound doesn't really differ that much from my 8 string. When the setup is done I'm going to order me another HB PB-Shorty, this one will be converted to a RiB-Shorty with two toasters in the Rick positions.

Wow 12 strings bass ! Can one even play that One can try. But yes, once you get used to it playing is no big effort. I'm planning on making a few sound samples at a later time. Did you build the body and all yourself? Yes, it's my own design and I made it all by myself. If you are interested in how I did it, I kept build diary's over on TalkBass and BassChat (and in Dutch, my native language, on BasGitaarForum.nl).
