I've been looking on replacing the red tortoise pickguard of my HB ST-90 SA for something less hideous. How well does made-for-Fender pickguards fit the the HB's? The screw hole next to the selector switch seems to be a bit off. It's placed more like the one on a '57 Fender 8 hole pickguard. How about the rest? I don't mind drilling a couple of extra holes if necessary but if the general shape is off so that every hole has to be re-drilled, then I'd probably just get some raw material and make one myself.

I bought a left handed Thomann pickguard to fit on my lefty ST-20 - surprisingly all the screws were in different places. I should have returned it but it's still sitting in a drawer at home.

It fitted okay if I recall correctly.

It fitted okay if I recall correctly. I might give it a try then. If it's a bad fit then there's only one solution; buy a new guitar for which the pickguard fits

I got one off eBay that said it fitted fenders. On my TE-20 I had to chop out around the neck, width & depth, cut one side around the bridge and file the radius for the control plate. Other than that it's fine, apart from 4 screw holes not lining up.

Other than that it's fine, apart from 4 screw holes not lining up. That's what I thought. Hopefully it's less work than making one from scratch. It's a bit odd though that Thomann doesn't sell parts that fits their own brand. I did a little digging, and it seems that all the HB strats have the same specs for their pickguards except the paisley model which appears to be more according to the standard Fender specs. The two upcoming tribute strats seems to follow the Fender '62 strat pickguard specs.

All of the scratchplates I have bought have been cheap Chinese ones and have fitted all the strats I bought them for , as others have said the screwholes will be off but that wont be seen I cant justify spending €30+ on a piece of plastic when I can get nearly as good for a fiver

I took the white pickguard from my HB ST-style kit guitar and put it in my ST-90 SA. I wanted a black one but it actually looks quite good with the white one. Now it looks like the natural finish Fender classic '70s Strat. I agree. It feels crazy to spend €30 on a plastic pickguard. I buy Harley Bentons for a reason. It would be insane if the pickguard was worth more than the pickups.

I was going to suggest white llauma as Roger Hodgson had on his, but something made me think you'd consider it boring. Glad you like it. I do to. I do like tort but it just doesn't seem to work on th ST90 SA. You were right. I actually thought it would be boring. Perhaps it is a bit boring but I really like the way it looks with a white pickguard. The white highlights the wood much more than the red tortoise did. The tortoise isn't really as bad as many say but I've had a natural ash red tortoise Tele for 20 years now so I didn't fancy another one, especially as the Tele has nicer tortoise and wood. The ST90 felt pale in comparison.

I bought one on AliExpress for crazy price of about 3 EUR. Due to same reasons — I cannot stand HB "tortoise". Pickguard is bare while, and it is actually still in transit so I don't know neither how good (bad?) is it, nor will it match or not. But if it match and quality would be OK, I can share the link. UPD: Just checked item description It seems to be the pickguard will not fit perfectly. I bought a wrong one. I've tried to find on eBay one that should fit perfectly... but it seams to be HB pickguards completely not standard. It looks like they are based on 8 hole pickguards but with 3 additional holes drilled in a bit random places
