Hi guys I am new in this forum. My name is Rosillo-vich and I am interested about modifications that I could do in my Harley Benton 8 String guitar to improve the sound, etc. I have bought this guitar to study the sonority of 7th and 8th strings and some techniques. I have been a pleasantly surprised the solid construction, the sonority and the tone of this guitar.
I have recorded a video where I am playing with this guitar. You can listen how it sounds. I have used Guitar Rig Software plus GR Control 3 using the expresion pedal
I am waiting for your comments about these modifications.
Regards.

Nice playing, especially on such a "fat" neck.
A modification I like to do is changing the standard cheap, plastic nut with either bone or "TusQ", as it's called. It can be a bit of a blag to do it yourself, but it depends on your level of skill. Also consider swapping the pick-ups, since those are the most "soundy" of modifications. And ofcourse the tuning pegs, to improve tuning stability.
And if you're really artsy, why not paint it pink ;P

Hi riemersma
Thank you for your comments. I have thought in change the pick-ups. I will use an EMG although it is not the ones usually I use, but. The tuning pegs ... for the time being, its are not detuning.
why not paint it pink? .. hahahaha ... well, it is not my colour prefered

By the way, you should definitely look at Bare-Knuckle too (IMHO). I think they're one of the best out there. For instance the Bare-Knuckle Aftermath is an 8-string pickup. I think it sounds great.

Hi rosillovich, welcome to the club and thanks for joining us. Unfortunately I can't help with the 8 string, hell, I get lost with 6 strings (and even 4 strings on occasions)

I like the playing. Is there some Frank Zappa influence that I'm hearing? Are any of the other guitar parts played on the 8 string?

I use Dimarzio Evolution. I am going to looking for some videos in Youtube where somebody plays with Bare-Knuckle pickups.
How could I reply like you in this thread?

Hi annoyingtwit
Is there some Frank Zappa influence that I'm hearing? I 'm glad you recognized the influence. Yes, it was my intention. I love how Zappa played the guitar, his rhythm sense. I have considerable admiration and respect for Zappa's music. When I try to play guitar in this style always I try to do it with all my respect.
Are any of the other guitar parts played on the 8 string? Not at the moment, but I am happy with the result of this improvisation. I have some ideas in this way (Z) and I am going to use this guitar to do it. I like the sound of this guitar, even with the serie pickups. It has not sustainer but it was a discover for me the tone, and other things that I have commented before. The sonority of 7th string and 8th string is great for some of my compositions. I am not going to use the guitar like a metal guitarist, I am not it. I am more interested in the sounds (harmonics) that I can get from it.

The new series look a lot different and got different PU routings for passive pickups. just saying if someone is interested
