The old Kay 12 string I have (which I'm planning on offloading to free up space) has an adjustable saddle like that too. Also a zero fret and an aluminium nut. Seems excellently engineered.
I'm wondering whether, having developed the excellent idea and quickly winning huge plaudits for the Hummingbird's versatility and tone, once the Japanese started copying the design Gibson may have decided to rubbish the idea and call it a cheap option. What it actually is is a great idea that allows for endless adjustment and experiments with different saddle material. The original Gibbo one was ceramic, I tried Corian which was very bright and settled on bone. Lovely.
"What's that terrible noise?" "Well, it's either the Hoover belt needs replacing or Marc Almond's on Jools again."
