Hello. I'm going to buy my first guitar. Well, I can't decide between TE-52(going to replace bridge, nut and maybe tuners if needed) or TE-30(going to replace bridge pickup to a Little 59, change bridge, nut and same with the tuners) help me :]

Hi! If you want to replace some parts, the diffrenent between of the two guitars is that the TE-30 has a non coated neck.Of course the pickups also.I think the stock TE-30 pickups aren't so great i'm also replace it.If you like more the vintage look and the lacked neck go to TE-52.

I think TE 30 comes with thin medium frets!

Correct, the TE30 has the thin frets (I wouldn't even go so far as to call them medium). They are ok, but I feel they should have stuck to the same fretwork the TE52 had in this model. I have a TE40 Wilkinson on the way now. Hope it feels even nicer.

Yeah those tiny frets are keeping me away from it! Sadly because its a fine looking guitar that TE30!

and the rather Ho-hum pickups, and that plastic nut and dreary pots that need more highs.. BUT yeah.. its a beautiful looking guitar.. once you strip it anything metallic and replace them with quality stuff.. she'd be a go-to piece.
I'll get there .. eventually with it.

I would recommend looking at the TE-70RW which for me is a much better guitar than the 52. Much lighter, better hardware right from the start and great sounding. And don‘t let the basswood body fool you. It can do twang as good as rock.

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I notice the RW no longer appears to have a single piece of RW in it. . IF it turns up without some of the problems that some other folk are having with their HBs at higher price points at the moment though it could be worth it. If, however, the pots are knackered and it needs a fret dress and the binding's a bit ho-hum and there are other finishing issues I'd pass. Did yours come with the Roswell's DerAlex ? I hear very good things about them vs Wilkinsons, more in consistency than necessarily in sound.

Yes, mine came with Roswell pickups and they are IMHO much better than the ones in the TE-52 (that I sent back). The PUs in the 52 were uneven in their volume (could probably be fixed with the height) but the Roswell ones were great out of the box. No problem with the pots or that the PUs are microphonic (although I do not play death metal so maybe my crunch/hard rock gain level is not high enough). I was under the impression that my TE-70RW at least has a Rosewood fretboard but I checked the invoice and it has a Ovangkol one. So my RW is officially RW-free ;-)

MORE highs on a tele? That's got to be a first. These HB boys must be geniuses to tame those.

Well, perhaps I should re-phrase that - Clarity? Brightness? whats the word you'd use for the pups sound muffled and when you turn the tone pots up, you wait for that nice sound, but it just doesn't come? The pots on my TE30 are like that. I am just left with a meh.. and take it to the amp settings to help it out. I'm not knocking it.. frig I got more than I paid for with this guitar. Just needs upgrades to make it shine to match its good looks.

By lowering bridge pickup I could find a balanced volume, but I still think that bridge pickup sounds to bright and harsh. I will probably try to replace it with Wilkinson alnico PU. I like the jazzy sound of neck pickup though.

This set is on my part caster ( TE70 neck + TE52 body ) and I got it for less than 80€ My Partcaster is awesome Another nice set for £59.90 : www.axetec.co.uk/guitar_parts_uk_075.htmWich was the model you get, change the pups. I never had a HB guitar of wich I could say that the pups are okay, just because the guitar deserves better ones, by far
