That's what I was beginning to think salteedog . You have a Rat don't you? More distortion than an overdrive? I think this question is definitely one for a shop and not a Google. I can't count the amount of times a recommendation online has been a flat out failure for me. I just read some Bad Monkey reviews that claimed it was a as good as anything three or four times the price and I can only assume that it was being played through equipment that cost three or four (or fifty) times the price of my little setup because my Bad Monkey sounded like a plastic static factory and went back two days later. You really need to match your equipment to your ears and your needs and someone just saying Tubescreamer or Muff Pi is just not any help at all.

Nope. No Rat here (apart from models in my Zoom mfx and my Katana).
I agree that its best to try it in person. Too many variables in the mix - guitar, amp plus players ears and tastes.
One man's 'fat creamy' is another man's 'muddy'. Or 'transparent clarity' is 'fizzy harshness'.
Still. Tone hunting is a fun game to play.

Was researching a bit and it seems Supro speaker is similar to the Celestion G12 Vintage! I think this could be the best investment I ever made; get the Supro Drive pedal which emulates the tone of the Class A Supro amp, get the Harley Benton Vintage cab and run this with any clean amp! Mic it for recording or use just pedal direct into an interface if so desired! Hm ... ... dunno ... ... I will not have the money until February or March any way, so have lots of time to ponder ...

I will put a lid on this one for now and see how I feel in a month or so about giving so much money for one box!

I think DefJef’s suggestion of going into a shop is the best idea, if you can go to one and take your amp and guitar it will be the best way to try.

Would you consider the Joyo ultimate drive and adding the 3 resistors to convert it to the alpha drive
Cant get much cheaper than that . It is very Dumbley, Ive done it and its quite similar to my Zendrive
Or build a Zendrive for about €30

I actually have two Ultimate Drives...one that is faulty and one that Thomann sent me as a replacement. The faulty one is surely repairable - I think one of the solder joints to the connector is gammy. I was going to use the parts for something else but maybe I'll have a go at that conversion. The UD is surely fat but probably a bit too gainy for Dumble-ness.

Its an easy conversion the three resistors are on the pots reducing the gain , vol and making it fatter so the gain will be reduced Personally I would leave the resistor off the volume pot as it seems to do nothing after half way from what I can remember the polarity of two electrolytic caps is reversed as well . If your not used to doing the likes of this , do one at a time and check it to see if its working ( youll have to stick it back into the enclosure to earth it each time ) because if you make a mistake you know where you went wrong rather than scratching your head with 5 pieces changed . I'll root out the mod and post it .
