Veneer is also a top, sort of. But whatever it is, HB made a nice looking guitar with it.

NAppel when you say "paper thin" do you mean less than 1mm thick? How on Earth can they even cut so thin?

NAppel when you say "paper thin" do you mean less than 1mm thick? How on Earth can they even cut so thin? you could check videos on youtube. there are machines that makes 100s of veneers out of 1 wood blank. i got a veneer of walnut here myself. its so thin… like paper less than 1m,yes it broke right off when i was trying to scratch the inside of the neck pickup cavity (shielding paint). there is like paper veneer on 1cm maple and the rest is mahagony

The positive side is that we save flame maple trees this way and since Im a nature lover and a tree huger my initial disappointment has disappeared Im happy its not a photo flame though

I think this is the way the SC550 is chambered

Im a bit in shock (help) how is this possible? My L450+ weighs 3,9 kg and the SC 550 weighs 3,9 kg !!! The SC550 has a chambered body yet it is still the EXACT SAME weight as the solid body L450+ !! I dont get it... The SC550 must have been built from wood which is more dense, a better quality wood. Trees which grow slowly give stronger wood, more dense. So this means that the L450+ is built from a fast growing mahogany hence less dense. I honestly thought the SC 550 will be a bit lighter just because it has a large chamber. Hm ...

there are so many different kinds of mahagony. light and heavy woods. just to write "mahagony" is not enough to be precise.
wikipedia says there are 50 species with 1400 different kinds of wood
