Hi guys (and gals if any), I am looking for some affordable pickups that I might use to mob my HB gits. So hear that these Entwistle pickups should be very good for the price. They are made by a known english pickup maker; One can find them on ebay LINK Have you heard much about them? Or do you have any other affordable pups to suggest?

They are made by a known english pickup maker; One can find them on ebay LINK Have you heard much about them? Or do you have any other affordable pups to suggest? Well, for what its worth I have a pair of HV-58 buckers in one of my LPs - www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup.php?puid=HV+58+ZB - and they are pretty nice sounding pups if you are after a lower output 'vintage' type of HB sound - a definite improvement on the original Epiphone pups. Other great pups at not many pennies: Warman - good sounding ceramics a-plenty - particular faves that I have tried are the p90 style Soapy Joe, Stealth humbuckers and Texas Triples strat set Ironstone - fantastic sounding strat sets (at any price let alone the bargain on these sets) - currently have the silver and gold sets in two of my strats and they are the best I have found ironstone-guitar-pickups.co.uk/ Irongear - great sounding humbuckers - I have had several sets of these and none have disappointed - the hot slag and rolling mill are great alnico units for much less than the big name alternatives, the steam hammers are nifty higher output ceramics www.axetec.co.uk/guitar_parts_uk_055.htm

I don't have any idea about guitar pickups, but in the bass world, Wilkinson does some decent pickups for very little money. Also, I have heard positive things about Artec (still talking bass here, please forgive my guitar ignorance )

I'm the same as JAC in only knowing about bass. The Seymour Duncan Basslines in my Zodiac DE got swapped for Entwistle Neos after hearing them. I know about 6 others who did the same Wizard and Wilkinson also get a good rep. As for Artec ! well they probably made the pickups in most folks guitars. Here's their product list. www.artecsound.com/pickups/index.html

@ kodiakblair its interesting to read that you took out the famous Duncan pups and put in Entwistle. They must be good. Remember that the perfect sound is in each of our own heads, things that some think sound amazing, may sound very dull to others. Now, based on that thought, we have to take into consideration that the swap was made by a Scotsman who plays punk... (hide) (just kidding, I have heard nothing but good things about Entwistle, they just aren't available cheap where I am)

They are cheap, but by the time I add shipping etc, they work out over 50 euros (for a P Bass pickups) which is about the same as I pay for DiMarzio´s (which I know I like), so I have never really gotten around to pulling the trigger on them.
One day...

This is true. But the Punk Scotsman heard it from an English Metalhead . There's also an old Classic Rock fella in my hometown uses the JBX rather than the JBXN in his PJ. I've heard great things about Haussel pickups. Yes they are expensive but if the guitar plays well then why change the guitar ? A fellow PB-50 owner loved his bass but put a Haussel in it.A 110 euro pickup in a 98 euro bass. (idea)

I was thinking Nordstrand or Delano in my shorty project, along with an audere preamp, that would be around 300€ in a 60€ bass! Needless to say that the project is on hold

P90s in a strat are great! I dont have any sound clips at the moment, but here is a photo of one of my strat projects loaded with warman soapy joes... Really like that setup that may well be my next project. A few questions mrbob, how do the P90s attach to the pickguard? Also where did you get the pickguard (or did you cut it yourself) and was it preloaded with the P90s.. The more I think about it, the more I wanna put some P90s in my strat.
