Hey everyone!
This is my first post on this forum, so I wanted to greet everyone first. Now on to real business
I'm a returning beginner - I used to play mostly classical music and some folk/rock on an old acoustic guitar. I am seriously considering getting back into playing and wanted to buy an electric guitar.
Since I'm a lefty, the choice is somewhat narrowed down.
After some searching, I've settled on 2 models:
1. Harley Benton CST-24T: www.thomann.de/ro/harley_benton_cst_24t_lh_ocean_flame.htm
2. Harley Benton SC-550: www.thomann.de/ro/harley_benton_sc_550lh_paradise_amber_flame.htm
I'm thinking I'm going to want to learn blues and rock and maybe a bit of metal later on.
Here are the pros and cons that I could find (one relative to the other)
Pros for CST-24T:
1. The headstock alignes the strings well (the strings are poorly aligned on the SC-550)
2. There is coil-split available out of the box (whereas the SC-550 has the wires prepared for it and requires some soldering - which is highly unlikely I'll tend to in the first year or so) (I'm not sure I'll need this feature at first)
3. There is a tremolo and, with some oiling, it will stay in tune (no tremolo on the SC-550) (I'm not sure I'll need this feature at first)
4. The Ocean Flame color on the CST-24T is stunning and I like it much more than the Amber Flame available for the SC-550
Pros for SC-550:
1. Double volume, double tone controls (CST-24T has only single volume and tone controls)
2. To my ear it seems to sound just a bit better for blues & classical rock (CST-24T sounds great for metal and harder rock stuff, but a bit less soulful for blues and classical rock) (but keep in mind I haven't played in ~7 years and I've only listened to youtube videos)
3.The fretboard is made from rosewood, which seems to be perceived as a better wood (CST-24T has Roseacer) It seems they're all made of Roseacer.
4. I like the shape of the SC-550 a bit better
Let me know what you think and what your recommendation would be. I do know I can't really go wrong with either, but the choice is killing me and I'm looking to hang onto any hair that might be split .
