Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

They also have this new Stagg brand !!! Why cant HB have this configuration!!! LINK!!!! I very nearly bought one of these (not in black ) a few years back using an online Tesco voucher for £50. In the end I got the more traditional tele configured Stagg off ebay for £30 in a sort of not quite blonde finish. It was being used as a prop for a photographer and when I saw some of his pictures it sure took on a whole new level of mojo - I'm sure that model had no idea how to play it though. It sits in my office now and I use it every day I'm there for ideas and practice. Feels good and I use it for rehearsals too.

The Slick guitar range looks interesting. I would not go for reliced stuff usually but these Slick guitars are only slightly aged. Have seen some reports saying they can need some work but that is to be expected at these prices? Around USD 220-260. Some models have solid brass bridges. Even the Strat and Tele types have slightly angled headstocks.

You mean the pickups are too hot? Pull off some coil-wire until you find what you are hoping for

Try not to confuse boutique winders with boutique sellers. At their prices we should be selling pickups not buying them But anyway, if a pickup gives that harsh sound that we associate with being hot there are things that we can do as you know of course. Knock off some volume on the guitar pot. Twiddle with the tone pot. Maybe lower the pickups. But if none of that works ya gotta shed some coil-wire or buy some more pickups. I like to take the most cost effective option. And it can be a good way of passing the time.

After my latest jam session with a loud drummer I came to realize that guitar dynamics play a little role when things get loud I was more concerned with the 60's cycle hum and maybe more drive from my pickups. Thats the reason Im now looking for a guitar with humbuckers. That SubZero Tele with 2 x humbuck. could be modded with a Irongear P90 in humbucker format if I need more dynamics in my tone. Dunno. I do need another drive pedal as one song requires it and another song needs an Octaver pedal (TC Sub'n'Up). I think I will have to prioritize. But that SubZero thinline with P90's is also tempting! So much temptation so little money

If Im to get the SubZero I would go for the cheapo white Tele and get the Ironstone 15K humbucker for the bridge and 7.2K P90 from Irongear for the neck. Would this work? I would lower the humbucker all the way and raise the p90 to compensate the volume. The P90 in the mid position would add more definition to the tone together with the humbucker Im sure. Or... just get a pair of Ironstone humbuckers and call it even. Tony did focus on getting a good tone from the split humbuckers so Im sure they will sound good in that position too (I just have to learn how to solder)

Yikes. You're tempting me to hack into my hated Chinese Strat Alnicos. No amount of lowering of anything helps that beast. Bearing in mind the enormous quantity of turns on a pickup (and not knowing how many turns these pickups have) how many unwinds would make a perceivable difference to the sound? 1000? 100? 1000!
