Geometrically. quilted maple is not too dissimilar to a floral design such as the paisley model above and while sometimes I can find quilty tops appealing myself this one is not one of them but I will say this bass looks much nicer overall plus you get an extra pickup, more knobs to fiddle with and a saddle for each string. Go for it

I quite like quilted maple. The dark grey is severe but it's nothing like an all black or all grey guitar, so that's fine. I love that golden pillow too. Would I buy it? I'm not sure but I'm not saying no right away. I put the V9 and the Squier next to each other for direct comparison. The Squier has a broader neck and makes a rounder impression. I prefer the finer and matching headstock of the V9 but I'm not too keen on the block inlays. Around those, it's really all dark grey and chrome, then I'm going to put black strings on it… No, I'll stick to the Squier. It is said it has a glossy fingerboard. I'd like that too. I wish these had a 3+2 headstock.

This Squier looks okay and is similar to the Sire MM. Available in Andertons Epic Deals right now for GBP 269. Might even be cheaper at other places. The strings look offset inside the neck here but it might be the angle of the photograph.
Edit. Is this the same as what you bought before?

So Andertons still have the Epic Deal? I didn't check, now I see they have 4 left at 300€. That's a great price. Yes, it's the one I got. Thomann no longer carries that model. They still have the 4-string for 308€. I had mine for 220€. I never thought I would really want a Squier, they are usually too old-fashioned to my taste but last weekend I saw that black active Deluxe Jazz Bass and felt it would be just the kind of modern touch I'd like. But it was all black and had some repaired damage right on the top of the body. Still, I liked the idea so much, then I found a virtually new looking Sunburst of the same. By the way, I think I know why they don't do 3+2 headstocks…

Nice trick with the 3+2 :-) This thread is looking weird now. LeoThunder posted while I was constructing my post!

Talking of strings offset look at the thin G on LeoThunder 's pic. It seems to be on the very edge. That's right, the Swee****er pic' I found has the same look. Mine looks better in this regard. I think it comes from the way the saddles are arranged together when tightening the strings. They can be shifted a little in both directions.

There are no other easy places. Music Store Köln lists it as sold out for 365€, Thomann, GAK or Amazon UK do not list it, although all still have the 4-string. Amazon US has one for $380 (322€) through a third party seller. In their Epic Deal video, it was said Andertons had bought a batch of them, likely at a good discount, and that will probably be the last of them.

I did not know that Andertons made a Epic Deal video featuring them. I found that one quickly doing a general search on the Internet for Marcus Miller models. I am not familiar with these basses at all but I have looked closely at two photographs of the Squiers today and both look like the strings are offset with the neck. Might be the angle of the dangle or it might not be. In any case I would contact the store to discuss this before ordering one.

This is not a 5-string, but I have kept looking at those fretless Jazz Basses just for the look of them, because I don't like pickguards. They still have a control plate, but fine. I could have lived with that, even though it really looks goofy that way. Then of course, I love that fretless sound, but I have no illusions on that front. I want to put my paws on one of these one day, just to be appalled at what comes out. I won't buy one. Now to the real issue: these Squier are so often made of so visibly different planks I don't even want to look at them. What's the point of making a guitar look that nice if the pieces it was made of jump at you this way? That's a "no go".

I think they look silly with no guard but have a control plate.
Maybe they come in solid colors?

No, there's just that Sunburst finish as of now on the Fender web site. It is the Jaco Pastorius copy, as part of the Vintage Modified series (288€ from Thomann). I suppose the guy didn't like pickguards and removed it, or maybe it just broke and was never replaced (good question, I'll try and find out). At least they don't make it look like the real one which got wasted over the years. Then there is the Deluxe Active without control plate (the one I bought) but with an active 3 band EQ, for a little more money. It used to come in black and in white too but only the Sunburst remains today. I see the 5-string has disappeared too. Here's the whole Squier offering.

You could refinish a body in a solid color or try to find a clear finish model where the mismatching is not so in your face?

The one I found looks just fine, which is partly why I jumped on it, but I have often seen Squiers I wouldn't want. This is one good reason for buying used guitars. You see the one you get.
