Im hunting for a Chorus pedal that is lush, warm but subtle as I really dislike exaggerated chorus sounds. Im after a chorus that will be almost always On, so it just can't go crazy but very subtle and smooth and shall not thin out my main tone.
So far I have seen demos for:
Mooer Ensamble King - some volume drop, too thin TC Corona - a bit digital and thin Boss CH-1 - a bit "hard" meaning not smooth Boss CE-5 - smoother more subtle has low and hi cut filter knob, so far maybe the one to get Boss CE-2 - just perfect, warm, smooth too expensive Boss CE-1 - absolutely perfect but WAAAAAY over my budget Boss CE-3 - could be a good choice not sure just yet MXR Analog Chorus - treble and bass knobs + the 3 usual knobs so very versatile but not sure if the sound is warm and lush enough Valeton CH-10 - sounds very good but has VOLUME DROP when engaged so BIG NO!
I remember liking the Tri-chorus on my old Digitech RP70 but that pedal only sounded good direct into audio interface not into an amp. TC Corona sure has that one. What am I after?
Im going for 2nd hand but could afford something up to 90-100 Euros if it ticks all the right boxes!

Forgot to mention the TC Dreamscape that has 2x Chorus, 2x Flanger and 2x Vibe. Not sure I like that one.

To give you even more choice: Boss CE-2W, this is the Waza Craft version, these are a made in Japan special line of modernized reissues of some milestone Boss pedals that capture the originals almost perfectly. I received my CE-2W this afternoon - I did some investigating after our talk yesterday evening and when I heard this one I immediately ordered me one. Basically it's a CE-1 combined with a CE-2, the CE-2 setting sounds just as I remember my old CE-2 and the CE-1 setting sounds almost exactly as the original one does in all sorts of videos I checked yesterday, only thing missing is the slight distortion on hard struck notes and chords that the original has. It's not cheap but also not super expensive for a Waza Craft and given how close it sounds to the originals and their current 2nd hand prices it might even be considered a bargain! The CE-5 is more subtle and more versatile as far as adjusting goes but this CE-2W is more musically refined, love it to have a CE-2 chorus on my board again, plus the added bonus of the built in CE-1. In the past I also toyed around with a CE-3, sound wise it came close to the CE-2 but it was not identical, main upgrade was a two channel output.

That Nautila has too many options for me but smart stuff indeed.
The Waza is too expensive for me as I'm not entirely sure I will use Chorus that much.
I checked the CKK Water Drop which is based on CE-1 but has no Mix control which is shame.
Still the CE-5 seems like the best option for my needs.

Interesting you mention slight distorted tone on the originals. I have noticed slight break up and compression on the original CE-1 in the That Pedal Show vid and I really dig that tone.

You can't go wrong with the CE-5. I watched that 'That Pedal Show' video yesterday evening as well, very informative and that bearded guy for sure knows a lot about these pedals.

Checked a few CKK Water Drop videos, in my opinion the chorus effect itself is fairly nice but it sounds much too thin.

Got it! So far can't find anything wrong with it. Works as it should, no noise, no scratchy pots and the sound is sublime! All at Noon sounds best to my ears! No issues with the Boss buffered tone either. Will place into the chain and hear how it sounds with my other pedals ...

Indeed I use it just a bit to add lushness to the tone. That said, this pedal sound musical even on the maxed out settings! Was pleasantly surprised as such radical setting usually give out a sound of utter unpleasantness!
I have placed it in my pedal chain, after the Compressor and before Delay. It might have a bit of "buffer" tone in form of slight boxiness. This can be elevated with amp settings (Mids and Bass). Still nothing to worry about as it sounds very nice and playing arppegiated chords, even overdriven and solo notes, is a joy.
