It's enough to spit on them:

Piezos sound like the greatest pick-ups ever Maybe it's time for the Tony Iommi method… Or just turn the guitar around for a softer hand.

I listened to the sound bites on the Thomann site and it's a clear no. Muffled and all softened out. It sounds like a Les Paul. I much prefer what I hear from the 59€ CG200C and even the 39€ CG200. I suppose I'll need some serious advice if I am ever to consider getting something like this. There's a 99€ Thomann Classic 4/4 and a Thomann Classic 200 too. I need to find out what to look and listen for.

Have you gone off having a piezo then? I wouldn't need pick-ups on an acoustic guitar. I would still want one on an electric, though.

It was about the HBO-850 with nylon strings. I wondered about the pick-up, but that was not a primary motivation. Nylon was. As I realised it didn't sound any good, for reasons unknown, I started looking at others. I wonder why the HBO-850 sounds that way. Is it the plastic back, its shape, the HB strings on it or just the sloppy recording on that day? In any case, I now like the Thomann Classic S(olid) best, for 129€, or the Classic Natura 4/4 for 165€. The expensive one has a fingerboard of purple heart. That's a little tempting.

That's interesting. The Thomann Classic 200 I find bright. The others are more balanced but the HBO-850 is dull in comparison to all. The Ovation 1773AX-4 NAT has none of this. I would suspect this is the cheap Harley Benton strings but I doubt the 99€ models come with anything else so I remain puzzled.

I did not even listen to the pick-up sound. Yes, it's funny. I'm never spending that much on a guitar. I also realised the HBO is a different shape, much bigger, and that's another red flag.
