What effects would you say are more "melodic" sounding?
In other words, things that aren't dirt and distortions related, things that are more like chorus, delays, mild synths, etc.

Slow gear, choruses, mod-delays I guess. I particularly like slow-gear (I use the Boss emulation on my Katana amp).

I guess arpeggiator type effects are the stand out melodic effect to me. My old Boss Phaser also had a random step mode that was a lot like a random arpeggiator.

I had that step mode on my disgusting Zoom pedal MartinB. It was the only reason to plug it in. A bit gimicky and once used difficult to use again but I loved it. I seem to remember John Frusciante using something like it on "Throw Away Your Television", which is a pity because I thought of using it first! And now, if I use it people go, 'oh is that that John Frusciante song?' Screw 'im. I love slow gear too salteedog, especially for other cello sounds that the trem alone doesn't do.

I’m sure there’s a Muse song that uses something similar too, my Line 6 M5 has something called Obi-Wah or seek wah that does a similar but more tweakable thing.

I just did a song with an intro using deep tremolo pulsing to the beat. Playing arpeggiated chords it sounds like cello sometimes. Beautiful.
I think I used that cello effect on my Rotten Teeth riff. I use it at the moment also, Reverb, Delay set to repeat after I have hit the note the second time (hard to explain) and then Square wave Tremolo to the same bpm as my playing. Lovely.

When I think of excellent use of tremolo I think of this Bowie track.
Btw, is that pulsing riff tremolo or some other cleverness?

When I think of excellent tremolo I think of Jonny Greenwood twisting that speed knob. Like on Bones? I stopped listening to Radiohead because I found them too depressing.

Extreme Tremolo? I always think of 'How soon is now" and 'What's the frequency Kevin".

When you say "melodic" do you think "atmospheric"? If so then some sort of Reverb with many options could be a good thing like the new EHX Oceans 11, or TC Hall of Fame or even the Fender Marine Layer which has that shimmering effect, almost sounds like strings playing after your notes.
Mooer Reecho Pro Twin delay is another very good Delay pedal worth more than it cost IMO. Has all from tap tempo to delays combined with Reverse delay or Chorus modulation. It aslo has Low and High cut filters which I always use to shape the delayed sound (I always cut off some of the highs and get a much nicer delay tone).
Depends what you feel to be melodic. To me Tremolo or Univibe can also be very melodic for slower playing style where notes are allowed to linger and sway in the air.

Atmospheric is a word I hadn't thought of to describe the effects (it's always difficult to describe a sound) but yes, things along the lines of effects that suite solo playing, filling out the space and giving atmosphere to the sound.
