I am looking for a compressor pedal for my bass - but didn´t want to spend several hundreds on a pedal. So I was looking for some advice which compressor pedal (maybe budget guitar compressors would do?) is a price-value monster? Currently I don´t have an amp and a bass box yet - I play through a Behringer PA system (https://www.thomann.de/de/behringer_mpa40bt_pro.htm). An alternative would be an amp with built-in compressor (like TC Electronic GQ500).

I am very happy with my CKK Gears Comp! Its based on a famous Ross compressor and I certainly love it! Gear4Music sells it and its not expensive. Once I receive my Shorty P Bass next week I can exactly tell you how it relates to bass tone!

Compressors seem to be a very personal thing, what one person loves another will hate (like most music stuff I guess ) I am using the Dynacompressor from Joyo (also branded as Ammoon, Harley Benton etc.) and I am quite happy with it for the use I give it. I place the comp right at the beginning of the chain and have it on very low settings that just avoid random peaks. If you are planning on using it to compress more then you may prefer something else. Personally I would suggest finding a compressor you like in a pedal form that way you can keep the same compressor with any rig (or even DI) that you play through.

Ha ha I really disliked my HB Dynacomp which could be different to the Joyo you had but they look the same. Mine didnt do anything to the signal but increase sustain a bit.

They are the same compressor. I find that the best compressors (my personal preference of course) are those that don't seem to do anything to the signal, however, if you compare signals with and without the compressor there is actually quite a difference in the peaks. If you are looking for a "squished" tone, then I agree that there Joyo/Ammoon/HB is not the best choice.

Im looking for a compressor pedal that offers more than 3 knobs and in my case I have the magic Mix knob where I can add as much of my dry signal as needed I aslo have the 3 voice toggle switch to add or remove some of the low end. I think ALL pedals ought to have a MIX knob!

Wouldn't having a mix knob on a compressor sort of defeat the object?

Per the other thread, I think compression is much more critical for bass than guitar given it is much more difficult to maintain volume (and perceived volume) balance across strings/notes on bass than it is on guitar. Particularly for rock styles where you don't want a lot of dynamics on the bass line (as opposed to jazz).
