- I may consider upgrading the harness to see if it would make a difference. But overall, I'm really digging it. Yes, it only has three knobs so it couldn´t be a SC550. Did you look at the knobs if they have small screws? Usually those silver knobs will let go when using a little allen key (I hope this term is correct - those little things where you setup string height at a Strat´s bridge for example). I usually recommend changing pots to Bourns (or Alpha´s) and using Mustard caps is usually good enough. You should try out 50s wiring as this gives you a great option to go from semi-clean to crunch/heavy crunch by just turning the vol knob from 8 to 10. I really like that but other´s around here don´t like it. You have to test it out and changing to modern wiring is no big deal. Congrats on that lovely guitar - still a bargain.

I own an SC Custom but with Roswell pick-ups. I had upgraded the guitar with a new nut because i don't like that sort of stock plastic nut in the neck of mine HB guitars. My Sc custom is very heavy (about this IMO I think that companies should start to safeguard the backs of young and old). The tuners are pretty good ... for pickups my philosophy believes that for a nice guitar tone there are some important factors that influence it: good ampli, nice cabinet and good semipro or pro FX for equalization and to sculpt the final sound. I suppose that your SC with Wilkinson it's without coil split ... I suppose so, because when I ordered mine, there was no information at all on thomann site about coil-split and untill now you did not find anything about coil-split in the page of my SC Custon Honey Flame. So maybe this older model of Sc Custom with Wilkinson is a model without coil-split ... more I don't know.
