That's a pertinent question. I do not listen to the down tuning crowd, so I won't even come to watch any of them anywhere but I'd like to know if these instruments actually find real use or are merely sold to people.
I don't think of fan-fret being targeted at shredders, though, you can shred just fine on hard strings. Benders are those who need it.

1) the 11th and 13th frets were high and caused buzzing. I filed them down. As an aside, this is probably the best guitar related tool purchase I ever made: Besides the basic set of screw drivers and Allen keys required for a standard set-up, of course.

I use them that way too. Not joking, I don't remove the strings. I just loosen them enough to push them aside then I let them come back to indicate the exact place for the fret rocker to tell me if I'm done. And no, I haven't filed any strings yet

That's ironic because bending notes is essentially an exercise in bypassing the intonation of the frets. You need an ear to know when you've bent to the right note, the fret is just a 'rail' for the string to travel on.

I work with the same tools but i got themfrom thomann with some other stuff. Just today I've filed one the the last fret in the freatboard of HB TE 70 BP.

Yes, I looked there first. Thomann's file costs 20€, one fretboard guard takes 3€ and there is some strange, impractical fret rocker for 8€. And the best is that I do most of the filing with the pink thing.

When you use those fretboard guards do you tape them or use elastic bands at all to hold them down LeoThunder ? Whenever I've used them I've always found I wanted to use both of my hands on the file for really careful control so used lazzy bands to hold them but it wasn't ideal. Then again I tend to use a flat file rather than a fret file so maybe the problem is negated? I hold the guard down with the same fingers that keep the strings apart. The other hand uses the cheap pink & blue flat file on the part of the fret that requires it. It is usually one or at most two strings at a time. I stop filing often to check the results with the fret rocker, leaving the guard in place but allowing the strings to comeback so the rocker is always checking the right spot. When satisfied, I move on to the next string if required (frets are often high only on part of the neck width). When all is done, I finish a little with the crowning file to give the fret that round shape. The guard is not needed at this point but I leave it on anyway.
