Well I have the OCD wife 😂 you are probably right DefJef. Time to control GAS, I can take my pension in a couple of years and get a nice lump sum. The plan was to treat myself then and I should probably stick to it. The amps I have now are more than adequate for my standard of playing if I'm honest. I'm looking at the HB 15watt amp at around £194 thinking a Bugera V22 is only around £50 more. Perhaps a should set a goal to improve my playing and then get something around £400 to £500 mark when the pension matures? My son bought me a new larger pedal board for Christmas I should really sort out how I'm going to set that up. Considering I just wanted to learn how to play Bo Diddley at the beginning 9 guitars and 4 amps later I need self control 😮

The volume of the 15watt may not be a problem if it can be switched to 1W...although I'm not sure if that's an actual attenuation or just a reduction at the pre-amp input. If the latter then it's going to sound better much running at full power. The main thing for me is the 12 inch speaker and bigger cabinet. Maybe not so much for recording but 12inch nearly always sounds better than 8 inch 'in the room'. Probably a 1W head with external 12 inch cabinet is the best for me but I dont like messing with cables and wires (even for pedals) so I prefer a combo. What I need is a 5 watt combo in 12 inch (or 10 inch) speaker with a reverb tank. So a Vox AC4 (but theres no reverb!) then or a Laney Lionheart (€755 )

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I take it the circuit has a gain stage? I wouldn't have though you would get clean boost (clean gain).
I seem to find from my limited experience if the circuit has more than one element (probably wrong terminology). It never does either "function" individually without some sort of influence of the part of the circuit that is off or being bypassed? The klon style od can be used as a treble boost and I believe you said the same is possible with a tube screamer type od. While that is somewhat true I don't think they do it anywhere near as good as a dedicated treble booster. Just my take on it you may find a different result?

Tbh I thought they were all reasonable. If I'm honest the keeley sounded best but way too many controls and options for me. The jhs would probably be the one I ended up with.
From the discussion I had with you about compression previously. I've sort of become the set and forget he mentions at the end of the video. I tend to try not to have too many pedals that have sort of eq/tone controls. I'm simple 🤔 I can't get my head around setting half a dozen effects all altering the tone rather than just adding the effect, if that makes sense. Having said that I stack a klon clone into another od 🙄 I do prefer the boost with just a gain knob, I know you like to have bass treble controls.
Back to the compression, you said to me something along the lines of: it's something subtle you don't miss until it's not there. The guy in the video says he likes it just to add sustain and thicken his sound. I'm probably going say this wrong but I think I use just to basically tighten the sound up a little? 🤕

I think your right DefJef it is hard to know the real sound of somethings on yt. I did notice quite a bit of hiss on that video more on some of the pedals. I just find some stuff over complicated and at times it's almost as if the reviewer takes away something on one knob only to put it back in two or tree knobs down the line (gosh that was a lot of knobs). You are much involved in recording and fine tune things for that purpose. For me personally I don't want too many choices 😉

I don't know if you have seen this DefJef? Or if your even interested. It pretty much covers a lot of the points we discussed, its a bit long but I thought it was good.
