so i’m looking at thomann’s web site and it appears that the only difference between the 20 and the 62 is that the 62 has alnico 5’s and the 20 has ceramic? is that correct?

I dont have the st62 but I suspect it has a thicker neck and bigger frets than the st20. St20 has modern c neck with small fret wire. St62 also has better tuners and possibly a better trem.

The ST-62 has a thick neck with a round C profile (23 mm at 1st fret, 24.5 mm at 12th). Frets are what I know as "medium jumbo". I wonder if those on the ST-20 would be any different but the fingerboard material will. Recent ST-62 models (since end of 2017 at least) have split post Klusen-style tuners. The vibrato used to be the cheap, thin block type but a recent video of the ST-62DLX (more expensive at 169€) shows a thicker block. I don't know if this would also be in the regular model. I have the older model and can say the cheap bridge is just fine. There is no lack of sustain to my ears nor any tuning stability issue.

I don't know how different the pick-ups sound. The Thomann samples do not help because they are not playing the same thing but there is a harsher quality to the ST-20 than to what I get from my ST-62 with Roswell. Of course this will depend on the amplifier and EQ, so I suspect the ST-20 could be just fine but I never had one. I would speculate you'll get a more "Strat' typical" sound from the ST-62 and a more "modern", flatter response with more high end from the ST-20. I wish someone could tell. The other quality is the spread in quality. At lowest price levels, the chance of getting a badly fitting guitar or an uneven fret job could be higher. The three ST-62s I had in my hands were all good, up to one high fret I had to file down. I'm not too worried about this, though, because Strat shapes are such a common thing. I would be more worried about a cheap set neck SC, because of the angle and resulting adjustment range of the bridge. One last thing: the Sunburst ST-20 has been looking very cheap in pictures I saw, with a somewhat crude red border. I would rather go for a solid colour. See what I mean here, in addition to the Thomann pictures:

Do both models really have different bridges? I wonder if anyone could tell the ratio of the recent tuners on the ST-62. The older ones, "klusen" style but not split, were 15:1.

now your going up in price, i’m trying to go down 😂😂😂😂😂. i’m trying to justify buying the 20 vs the 62. i know the 62 is good but not much specific info on the 20’s. i was hoping to find someone that owned a 20 and a 62 for comparison to give exact specs. i’ll be paying 50 euro in shipping so trying to recoup some of that.
