Through a clean amp the Sc550 is OK it's not got a bad tone certainly not unpleasant. I don't like any guitar completely clean though apart from the strat with lipstick pups in.
At the end of the day your either a les paul lover or hater much like any type of guitar.

The custom has a Jatoba fretboard and Grover tuners those two things would probably swing it for me. But I have heard good reviews of the 450 plus so don't be swayed by me. Its really what appeals to you most mattychaddy123 , what finish you like etc. im ordering a HB in the morning but i still cant seem to make my mind up. which guitar would you purchase for an intermediate player?

My way of thinking is pay the extra for the slightly better model. So I'd go for the custom if you don't like it use the returns policy. Unless your in the USA? Really you got to say to yourself what one do I like the most, what do I want most? A bog standard LP or a modern type LP? I toyed with getting the custom but had the money to say **** it I'll get the 550 which by the way does not have coil split. If I want single coil sound I'll use a strat I wanted a full on LP type guitar. Sorry this is not much help but only you can decide. Good luck mattychaddy123 with whatever you choose.

Pieces of wood with strings on them. No magic. Pick-ups will make the most difference but they are the same in this case.

As Leo said the custom is slightly thinner with a belly cut and possibly a nicer finish and a couple of upgrades. They both have Roswell LAF picups. So not exactly the same. I feel for you mattychaddy123 it's a tough decision. What colour are you looking by the way?

Both of those look good I do like the honey flame. My 550 is Faded Tobacco flame it get quite a few comments when people see it. The finish is superb and I'm not bigging it up because I have one.

Well mattychaddy123 your halfway there you weighing up the pros and cons 😉 has the custon got a bone nut? I never noticed that on the specs. Well you will make the choice you feel is right just before you hit the buy button good luck and i hope whichever you choose is a good one 😁

The custom may be a little lighter weight wise, I think each guitar has its own sound even if they look identical. Maybe not that noticeable difference but little nuances. I believe they will both sound like a les paul type guitar, I don't think you'll be disappointed with either. I have 4 HB's they are all OK. I had to do a little work on the D120 acoustic but really just shave a tad off the saddle and a set up.

Jesus! mattychaddy123 you can't lay that on me lol Personally I'd go for the custom purely for the better nut, fretboard, tuners but what I would do is not necessarily right for you. You got to decide what you want most. P.s I think the custom also has strap lock they used to have them.

I might upgrade a few parts on it aswell. and yes, it does have strap locks. another reason for me buying the custom is the lemon flame looks a bit like slashes AFD les paul.
