This might be too late but i find my SC450 plus and SC Custom are two entirely different guitars. SC450 plus is more of a traditional les paul, while SC Custom is rather a copy of ESP LTD EC1000 if you ever played one of those. Also, Customs come with 3 knobs so you can only coil tap both pickups at the same time. My SC Custom is also a very dark sounding guitar compared to 450.

My SC Custom is also a very dark sounding guitar compared to 450. That's interesting. Any idea why? I made the same experience but my SC-Custom had Wilkinson (or fake copies…) and my SC-450 Plus has Roswell so I assumed that was the difference.

I believe it has to do with the absence of a maple cap on the Custom in Vintage black. Mahogany is a dark wood, but maple tops seem to make them a bit brighter. Which SC Custom do you have?

I own a 450 plus that I changed to 50's style Les Paul wiring etc It is bottom heavy but I got used to it. I'm also a Fender Strat owner and compared to the Fender when I'm sitting all Les Paul style guitars feel like they are bottom heavy. If you have played Les Pauls whether Epiphone or Gibson or some other copy then it will be similar but not exactly the same. I enjoy my 450 plus.

I doubt its thickness could play any role in anything. My all mahogany Ibanez, three of them, are all brighter. My mahogany Strat's is brighter than the basswood ones. It's all in the electronics and maybe, just maybe a little in the bridge. … and in the strings too. They do make a difference
