I have a new bass
Yes, it's another Sunburst. I know DefJef doesn't like them. I'm buying them all off so he no longer has to see them. He does the same with Telecasters.
I got it cheap. Again. With case, brand new, it seems, and new strings too. Fender roundwound, nothing fancy but that's just fine. It's what I would buy anyway.
Apart from a little of the Cosmo Black gone away from one saddle and the side of the bridge, it's like new. Not a scratch on it, no buckle rash, not even fingerprints and no fret wear at all (good joke ). This thing hasn't even been played… and I got it for half price. 49.1% of the equivalent new price, to be exact. Ibanez are great and you get them dirt cheap. Better than Harley Benton. Can you get a fretless active Harley Benton in a case that looks this good for 210€ shipped?
3mm action (who does that on a fretless?) but that's was solved easily.
There was an issue, though. It sounded terrible. In the middle position. No bass. At all.
Bridge and Neck sounded good on their own, nothing wrong there but as I moved towards the middle position, it went all nasal and tinny, not woody. All like out of phase. And it was. It took me some time and a pair of glasses to pull out the blending pot from under the pre-amp and compare its connections to the one on my other SR370 (See? it's always good to have more of one good thing). And there it was clear: the bridge was out of phase, a blob of solder betrayed some post manufacturing intervention by some … well I don't know what happened. So I put it back in phase and now it sounds great. Plays well too.
People give stuff away because they don't know how to fix it. Makes me happy
