I have a friend who has one, it looks better in reality than the Thomann pictures, I have the Faded Tobacco SC 550 and it's pretty much the same guitar with obviously a different finish, but looks stunning.

I think I'm going to get one for Christmas. Maybe order two other HB's to off-set shipping. But man, this one look beautiful. Do you think it's worth the risk of ordering the B-stock to save a little?

That's a gamble? Depends how much they are knocking off the price? Personally I'd buy full price as most times its only a £10 (not sure what that equates to in dollars) or so reduction. If it was a considerable amount reduction I may be tempted but would expect to have to do some fret work possibly? eddie you never know what your gonna get 😜

I think it's a small discount. $15? Something like that. I can't order until after the New Year. We're going away for the holidays, and I can't send three guitars to an empty house. We've been having trouble with porch pirates stealing packages from our front door. I think my last shipments all arrived around 10 days after ordering. So I'll try to time it to arrive when just as we get back from vacation. Merry Christmas everyone.

Do you think it's worth the risk of ordering the B-stock to save a little? Short answer: the risk on a B-stock is the same as on a regular item. B-stock items may show signs of unpacking and minor use, like fingerprints. The one I got had screwdriver marks on one of the adjustment screws for the height of the bridge. They are usually returns without faults, frequent thanks to Thomann's policy allowing free returns without reason within two weeks. German customers can order three guitars, pick the one they like and return the others. I have seen women do this with online purchases of clothes, they'd always return half the stuff (edit: I would always have to attend the selection show and return the half full parcels That's how I know). So in theory, they are fine, just no longer fresh out of the factory. In practice, they may have the same faults as a fresh item. I don't know how they are checked when returned. Mine was badly set-up and the marks on the screw told me someone unexperienced, likely the previous buyer, had failed to do it. It was probably also the return reason but since it could be returned freely without a reason, I suppose this is what happened. B-stocks are usually some 10€ below new price, which is a small reduction of 5% on a 200€ item. Mine was 33€ down from 199, or 16.5% after the new price itself had dropped from 299€. Maybe the wonky set-up and screwdriver marks were the reason. I see there is a SC-550 for 199€ down from 269, or 26%. I would not get this one outside of the free return policy, it must be strange. But maybe you would. Try it and tell us how it is

But maybe you would. Try it and tell us how it is I'm really excited about the Black Cherry. I'm going to order in a bit. Probably go new. Saving $18 is not worth the risk ... especially with the difficulty of returns from the USA. It's a beautiful instrument. I may also order a cheapo SC-400 (the matte black one) to help with shipping. The more the merrier. If I order today, I'm guessing it'll probably get to me by the 17th or 18th. But it's a risk with the holiday shipping rush. We're head out for vacation on the 21st. That's too close in case there's a delay. I don't want the guitar(s) sitting in the cold for a week. Then again, if I delay a week and time it to arrive after I leave for vacation, I'll just send it to a friend's house.

Thomann are most likely overstaffed for the Christmas sales and trying to ship all they have. This goes sharply down afterwards and shipments are delayed. I remember one of their guys speaking of the catching up phase in the new year which takes a couple of months. I wouldn't go for the SC-400 because of the most likely dull pick-ups but you might want to replace them and the thing is cheap. There's even a 99€ B-stock. I would go for the SC-Custom Active Anyway, I'm not buying anything this year anymore. I'm waiting for new bridges on the B-650 FL and who knows, maybe they'll have a new colour. I wish it weren't black…

I ordered a guitar from Thomann last January (around the 10th) and recieved it inside 5 days. OK thats only to the UK and not the US but there was no delay whatsoever. eddie I know you like LP's for another 40 dollars or so you could get a SC450 GTP90 which is a hell of a guitar if you like P90's? The SC 500's are excellent value according to a couple of posters on here. Anyway good luck whatever you go for.

I'm gonna look into this. Maybe get both to save on shipping.

I just recently bought an SC-550 (Desert Flame Burst here!), and may have a couple things to add:
First off - great guitar! Definitely in love with this thing! Secondly, shipping from Thomann to me here in CT took about 15 days. Thirdly, and YMMV here, my local post office refused to drop the thing off at my porch without a signature. I wound up having to go pick it up at the local Post Office - this certainly makes things tougher on the porch pirates out there!
