Hi there i'm new to the forum, I thought i'd reply to this question about HB guitars and Metal. I've owned a few HB guitars over the years and i have to say the Roswell passive pick ups are quite good for metal. I own a SC-450 LD Les Paul and although its not considered a 'Metal' guitar played through my Line 6 Pod HD, Orange CrushPro 120 Head and a Laney 4x12 cab it sounds very good for old school thrash metal, I also own a PRS SE Standard and the SC-450 sounds way more Metal than that does.

Would that Baritone-7SB DLX qualify as a "super Strat'? Pick-ups aren't the sharpest thing, though: I like the blue S-620 but pick-ups might lack clarity as well. I suppose active humbuckers are the only cheap way of getting this. They need less windings, implying less capacitance too. I wouldn't worry about the bridge. I believe the edge can be sharpened anew when the time comes. The baritone 7 is definitely a super strat, but it's a baritone. I could go for a 6 strings baritone, but not a 7. By the way, I have noticed that HB now make a R-457 active. Hopefully this is the same plug-in system as EMG pickups so I could swap them easily !

Nice sounding Hallon ! Eddie, about these HBZ active I have noticed that sometimes, you have a higher output level that makes it impossible de get a clean sound. And sometimes, you're a bit luckier and they can go clean. But the most interesting thing about these HBZ for me is they have the same plug-in system than the EMGs. So you change them whenever you want and suddenly you get a totally different sound ! Ok, I'm a huge fan of EMGs, I always find an easy good sound setup for them

I think I'm going to look for a set of EMG's. Is the plug-in system plug and play? Or are there some modifications that need to be done? Anway, thanks a bunch. I may go this path.

This really is a mean looking guitar. It has metal written all over it. $279 + shipping to the States. It's among the higher prices of the HB line. I've gotten spoiled with HB guitars. Can't beat the price. How would this guy compare to a mid or upper level LTD?

Yes this is the plug and play system, so if the electronics in your guitar is ok, you can change pups in 5 minutes. If the electronics is crappy, you can use the solderless kit, like I did on my SC 1000, it's really easy to do.

Yes, for the price, it's really very intersting. Not only it has an original FR 1000 but it also has Grover tuners ! Thing is I already have 2 floyd rose axes at home, but if I want one more, I'll surely go for this SC Custom FR.

I put up a few guitars for sale to cull the herd. If I can open up some space in the mancave and free up some funds, I think I'm gonna snag this guy.

You could literally part it out and profit from it vs the price you paid for it.You will not though because it has an ultra fast neck, great balance, look, feel, etc.Bridge p/up is doggy doo.......swap it out and you got a $1,500+shredder.Take my word for it......been doing this metal shred geetar thingy for nearly 40 years now.

Wife's eyes are upon me and the bank account. The deal we have is : I can buy one if I sell one, within a defined budget that may vary from one year to another. Now, I really love most of the guitars I have and there are some I cannot imagine selling. I'm sure she knew this was gonna happen !

If I would find a deko SC Custom FR, I would keep the FR and the Grover and keep the rest for training. I've never soldered, I could try. I've rarely polished frets, I need training. But, as you say, if I buy it new for 300€, I won't do that. I already had a SC Custom in the past, I know these guitars are really good
