Hello All. Which would you choose for Rockabilly: HB Bigtone £250 or Epiphone Swingster £340? Any views or information greatly appreciated. Have a tuneful, blessed new year! David

David I've only ever played bass so can't comment on either. Just want to thank you for playing Rockabilly My memory is probably shot but I think blablas owns a Bigtone. Hopefully I'm tagged him correctly and he will respond . Happy Hogmanay when it comes KB

kodiakblair, I've got one of these Bigtone's, a lefty. Can't really comment on how it plays due to the fact I can't actually play guitar, even if my life depended on it. I'm a also bass player . Just bought me one of these beauty's because it looked so damn good... and maybe at some time I will want to play guitar. The build quality is very good and it sounds nice.

Only the Epi Swingster ! because I have one and it is a killer. The Bigtone could be a good choice too if she was not featurering this ridiculous Bigsby model that is not fitted to the guitar : too much angle on the bridge. And that's a pitty because I believe she could challenge the Swingster without this. So if if you can afford it, take the Swingster
Check at 5'.20"
Rockab demo Bigtone
The Swingster then :
The Swingster sounds obviously more twangy and juicy, and that is the true feeling of the real thing. Her pups ( exclusive to this model ) and electronics are really amazing. And she's also incredibly deep on the bass/medium side. Of course I only know the big tone by what is eared and written here and on YT ( she sounds much better on the second video ).....
ah, one more advice : Nick don't tell totally right as some Gretsch models also have a floatting bridge, just like the Bigtone and the Swingster. I have absolutely no issue with this, even playing a strong strumming or pushiing the bigsby ( yet in reasonnable way, this is not a Floyd ! ). The bridge instability issue on the Bigtone is directly due to the steep and unbalanced strings angle. This can't do anything but push the bridge out of its natural place. People tried to put the strings without passing under the front bar of the trem... but I do not know if this solution is worth
This said, an hollowbody is not the only guitar for rockabilly : Tele, Strat, 335 type fit very well too .... but of course, if you're a Brian Setzer fan you're done
