God, that's much better. I really like that. What's that tort colour called thunderbird ? I have to insist that you do it. Tortoise shell on white, four ply, gloss finish, $60 or $65 (small, large) for a blank of that stuff. I had a look on Ebay, but the Torts there look like various shades of salami. Ebay is fine for solid colours, though.
I think my local guy gets his stuff from Japan. Local bloke:

It does appear decent looking tortoiseshell either pre cut or sheet form are difficult to find. What colour is that thunderbird? I've seen sellers state brown and red verities. It's hard to really get a a true representation due to image/lighting. The one you posted certainly looks a vast improvement on a lot I've seen.

It's hard to really get a a true representation due to image/lighting. The one you posted certainly looks a vast improvement on a lot I've seen. There are two types available, here's how they are described: Tele® style pickguard. Tortoise shell/white, 4 ply, gloss finish, 8 screw mount. Tele® style pickguard. Tortoise shell/mint, 4 ply, gloss finish, 8 screw mount. As far as I can tell*, the top layer is simply a printed pattern on the cheaper ones. This one has windows through to the white layer underneath, hence $45.
There's also a celluloid type @ $90 or $125 for a relic type! Real Celluloid 60's Tele® style tortoise shell pickguard. Light relic finish. 8 screw mount.
*I may be wrong.

Maybe expensive DefJef but it's 100% better than the HB corned beef version, don't you think? The transparent effect on the one thunderbird has looks like real tortoiseshell effect like you get on the frames of expensive sunglasses not mentioning brands. I would pay the extra I know it's a personal choice thing but it does look so much better.

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

It's absolutely better blindwilly3fingers . The corned beef is nasty. It IS really difficult to track down the good stuff from pictures alone but I did just find this on Amazon>LINK
thanks to thunderbird 's description. And here's one of the reviews of it: "This material is great! Like previous reviews state, it is truly a 4-ply pickguard where the top layer is Tortoise Celluloid film. It looks really nice and its quality far exceeds the price you pay. I had enough to make 2 Mustang bass pickguards. The sheet is really thick and easy to work with.
I've bought a white pearl strat pickguard by IKN before and it also looked great. Their pearl and tortoise material are the real deal." Maybe there are more too. This was just my first search.

I found similar at £18 a sheet on ebay from a guy in Scotland. But not as detailed a description but 4 ply and looks close.

There's a US seller on Ebay too. Has both mint and white 2nd layer and is claimed to be made in Japan, as I suspected. That Amazon pic looks to be a different pattern though, DefJef

That brand Fleor DefJef is good I've got one on my blue Squier and put a mint green one on a mates strat. Both came well packed and just over 2 weeks delivery. I'm tempted to get one for my JA60.

The trick is to get the cheap salami stuff and rework pictures of your guitar with the pattern posted above. Any decent image editor will offer mask filling with a texture, so all we need is a copy of the squares. Thanks
