IMHO strat type guitars greatly benefit from shielding because of the design of the pickups and the control cavity.

And what about the humbucker guitars - any noise with the SS amp there?

on solid state amps you'll probably don't run much risks doing this mod.
but valve amps often need the loudspeaker in the circuit so to not damage them when running.

And what about the humbucker guitars - any noise with the SS amp there? Yes also noisey on higher Level and Gain. This is a noisey amp. Not so much on low level (1) which I use for recording.

Update;
I tried to record direct via the Headphone socket and its works beautifully with Cleans. Just a slight amount of hiss but not of the annoying kind and this can be cleaned up in DAW. Its not so good with OD or Dist. Too much bloody hiss! Gainy sounds are best recorded via a mic.
EDIT; the hiss comes from the amp, not the guitars!
