I have only tried the coated strings.
I tried coated phosphor bronze 11s on my CLG 414-CE. At the time I thought that they sounded brighter than the Elixir 12s I had on. I had them on for about a year. For some reason I put the Elixirs back and now I find the wound strings have many more overtones. I am not sure if slacking off the strings and tuning them up again gives a more lively sound anyway. Something to do with seating the bridge saddle? Maybe the Thomann strings just went stale or maybe they wound strings were a bit flat from the start. At some point I will have to use the 2nd pack of 11s and then I will know better.
I have also tried the coated 9s on my Pac112 and coated 10s on my SC Custom. I don't really know if they are any good but at least they are always shiny. I have given some 9s to kids who came to music school with rusty cheese wire for strings. One of the kids broke a B string at the bridge when bending. I also broke a B string using the whammy bar. Make of that what you will.
One of the teachers also tried the 10s and thought that they were pretty good for the money. He then got me to order another 5 sets. Hopefully he can tell me how well they survived when I see him this weekend. He may even pay me...

Interesting experiences. The coated strings are quite a lot more expensive, I really like the stock D'Addario EXP-16s on my CLD-41SE, these strings are nearly 3 times as expensive as the HBs. I might try the coated HB strings when I change the stock strings.
9s are very thin strings, strange that the B string broke and not the E. I'm sure if you tell them what happened (twice) they will send you replacement sets.
I do hope he pays you for them, it's nice enough you ordered them for him!

I find it funny that HB themselves mostly use D'Addario strings on their guitars not their own. I mostly use D'Addarios and to be honest don't change them as often as I should. Hence why I ordered a batch via Thomann and will start renewing a bit Even the J&D guitars of Musicstore have D'Addario strings on them. Sometimes I wonder if they are really D'Addario. They have the coloured ends though.

That does kind of mean they admit their stock strings aren't great, or they would use them on all their guitars surely?

I think it makes sense to ship the higher end stuff with really good strings so they sound as good as possible. I think they are admitting that their own strings aren't as good. I love the D'Addario strings and will probably try them on my other guitars now. I have been using Elixirs for ages but for me the coated D'Addarios sound much more natural. Although sometimes I find that certain strings suit certain guitars and not others. I tried Gibson Masterbilts on my Terada J200 copy and it sounds amazing but on my Epiphone EJ160e they sound terrible.

I currently have Pyramid strings on my (electric) guitar since they are also very cheap and I wanted to try them out. Not bad actually, I might buy them again in the future. They are also made in Germany so you support your 'local' economy.

I could buy a Lowden, Avalon or McIlroy guitar to support my local economy but couldn't justify that kind of outlay unless I was on TV playing!

Luckily for me there is a Belgian company called Stagg that specializes in cheap Chinese instruments. (I'd rather buy Harley Bentons though!)

Hey,
recently order a set of HB nylon. No "flashy" presentation or superior details as color ends or tags for easy identification, or soft ends on low strings for more easy instalation like use to found in other brands . So it requires more atention on restring the guitar. Against the more expensive daddario EJ45 they sound good for my hears.
Looking for trying somo steel sets.

I got three sets of 9-42 from e bay for £6.00 inc postage, to avoid the shipping from Thomann, they are fine, they are not as shiney as name brands, but feel good and sound good, hold tune and I can't think of anything wrong with them to be fair... I've had a set on for two weeks now and play everyday for a few hours.. I like and will buy again.

Just FYI but I reckon the ultra cheap sets (box of 10 sets I think) you get from Lidl every now and again are identical to the Thomann strings. They have the exact same inner packaging anyway.
