Hello guys,
I am new in the forum but I've been considering getting an SC-450plus and then maybe make some changes to it.
Do you know if bridge and tailpiece measurements are equivalent to gotoh, graphtech or tonepros parts?

Yeah I heard good things as well, but some people say that sometimes it does not hold tuning well or some other stuff...
Just wondering

I can only speak about mine ... and it's GREAT I will at some point in time replace the electrics, but at the moment I'm very happy. I have changed the strings of course, and when I did that I sprayed a little wd40 inside each tuner, worked each for a bit, and the thing stays in tune just fine ....

Welcome H, I’ve got the SC-450plus VB, a very good guitar. Also have the SC-400 SGT, not as good of guitar, it has been gutted and is being heavily modified. I believe the QC may vary guitar to guitar, but my SC-450 was definitely very playable. It has a few small finish blemishes, which aren’t much worse than any other new guitar I’ve seen. The bridge and tailpiece that come on the guitar aren’t high dollar items, and upgrading them won’t hurt, but you may not see much improvement in sound or stability, if any. The posts on the bridge and tailpiece have a rather loose tolerance to the bushings that are pressed into the body. This can be tweaked a bit to tighten things up, or not. Once you are tuned-up, this stuff really isn’t moving. As for the dimensions you are looking for. The tailpiece appears to be 82mm center to center of the posts. The Bridge appears to be 73mm center to center. TonePros makes a Metric drop-in set for Japanese/Asian fits, but you’ll have to verify their dimensions. I’m sure there are other options as well. For the bad news. The bridge center to center is 1.5mm different between my 400 and 450. The difference in tolerance could explain why the posts are a bit loose, to help account for mfg variances in QC. Hmm. Honestly it’s not noticeable when being played, and when tuned up feels tight. Hope this helps.

Really helps a lot! I did similar upgrades on an epiphone I had, with drop-in asian tonepros, so this should be the same As for the bushings, maybe dropping in tonespros ones makes things a bit tighter as well! Do you know if the fretboard radius on these guitars is 12inch like normal les pauls?

Yep, my two SC models both have/had the ±12" radius. The 400 had some variances here and there, probably QC issues, but pretty sure it was intended to be 12" or some metric cousin.
The 450 feels good, good size neck, not thin, and not a baseball bat. Somewhere in the middle. The 400 neck feels ever so slightly thinner, but I haven't compared measurements or contours. If the two are from the same factory, I'd kinda expect them to be the same profile, granted there can be variations in final sanding and finishing... Probably a lot of fast paced hand work done on these guitars.

Folks - I also on the verge of getting a Harley LP type guitar. One mod, if you can call it that, is the truss cover. Any idea what replacement type would fit it?

Just an update, I found the blog post from a guy that replaced the bridge on this guitar with the Gotoh version, which I happen to have an extra of On another note, I found that the SC-custom has better shielding inside the cavities, among other details that interest me... but can anyone confirm that the SC-custom does not have the same neck cut at the heel as the sc-450plus for better access to the higher frets? On all photos I've seen, it seems only the 450plus has this ¨comfort¨ cut... I asked all these questions to Thomann, but they are too slow to respond to the e-mails.

Yes I've seen that one It seems there's no comfort cut on the neck for sc-custom Yeah there is no comfort cut BUT the guitar is much thinner than a les paul and the heel also. Its very good playable until the 20th fret.

Its very good playable until the 20th fret. From what I've seen, the custom has much better hardware for just a slight price increase... I might go for it instead of the 450plus

Helo, you've asked about some mods and let me tell you what I did to mine. You will have to excuse my writing, since english is not my first language. Upon its arrival the guitar was set well. There were some flaws on first inspeciton like tuner bushings sticking out and sting height over first fret was set way too high. I have also notised the saddle screws on the bridge were kindda loose and the retainer wires underneath were not of good quality. I could just imagine what a problem that could do to intonation stability. Other than that, the guitar is built very well and it sounded good straight out of the box, so I have decided not to return it but to change some crappy parts and make it better. My only guide was, not to spend too much money on a cheap guitar, and change only the parts I thought were neccessary to replace. So, the first thing was to replace the nut. I've used Graphtech XL (Graph Tech GT PQL 6060 L0 - TUSQ XL 1/4" Epiphone Slotted Nut) that I had spare from mods I have done previusly on my other guitars. It fitted nicely, very low at the first fret, but just about right. Second in line was the bridge. I've bought Gotoh GE103 B-T and it was a drop in replacement. I've replaced bushings too, with litterally no effort. I have also ordered Gotoh tailpiece, but later decided to install Faber TP-59NG, Vintage Spec ALU Stop Tailpiece, just because I liked the sound of it a bit more. I've used Gotoh studs for tailpiece though. Just a little extra for the eye, I have replaced switch plate plastic and a washer ring to look better to me. Got it really cheap from chinese online store. As you can see I also changed truss rod cover with rosewood one. I just didn't like the stock cover. I also did some fret levelling and I've polished the fretboard and aplied some fret doctor oil and now it plays beautifully with a nice low action. I will left the tuners stock for now because they work OK with TUSQ nut, and I didn't touch the pickups because I think they sound just fine for playing at home. First, I just try to focus on the acoustic sound of the instument and if I can get that right, then I will focus on electronic part of the guitar. For now I'm pleased with what this guitar turned out to be and I like how it sounds and plays. I recomend it for anyone who thinks about buying a bargain guitar for playing at home or as a backup axe for gigs. Just bare in mind that it comes with cheap chinese pot metal parts and they may not work or last long. Hope this helps someone.
