I had a go at the pickguard tonight Gave it a light sanding and then mixed acetone and Rustins mahogany wood dye on a cloth and rubbed it in. then buffed it up with a little bees wax and finally sanded back the edge to white . In hindsight I should have taped the white edges before applying the dye . It does look more tortoise and more natural than the original Ive washed and scrubbed it and it hasnt faded at all Hey, wildturkey. Did you take a pic of the body rout without the pickguard in place? Or, even better the back of the scratchplate all wired up. The pickup and control layout is the same as I'm considering for my Fano-ised LP Jr/Special and I'm just trying to figure out my best route for wires to the switch on the lower horn. salteedog ? You have one of these too don't you? Any ideas?

DefJef I'll take the pickguard off mine this weekend and photo it for ya. I cannot recall for sure but I think theres a groove from the main cavity with the pots to the small cavity with the switch.

I want one of these but I'm finding it hard to justify when I already have a HB-35 and Epi Les Paul. Can someone convince me this'll have a different sound?

Thanks so much saltee. That groove thing was what I was thinking but I can't seem to see any of these opened up. I've even tried to find pics of Squier Jazzmaster Affinities and Vintage Modifieds but no luck. It might be a lot of wires going from pups to vol to switch and back again and I'm hoping to avoid too much faff. I do like the idea of a switch there though. D'you ever knock it by accident? Don't think I would but I manage to clout the tele one in it's traditional position so anything's possible! Nope I never hit it by accident. In fact it's my preferred switch position. I always hit the switch accidentally on the LP shape L400 and sometimes even on my HB35. I hate switches on the upper bout.

I like the idea of it there as I tend to play close to the neck pickup and it would be very handy. I'm just a bit concerned about having some of the wiring attached directly to the guitar and some to a scratchplate. I did it on my Frankencaster and it makes things a bit more fiddly to put together as it requires a bit of extra wriggle room in some of the wire lengths. I also don't want to lighten the body any more than necessary with too much extra routing. I want to avoid the neck dive that annoys me so much about many SGs.

Yeah, hate neck dive and heavy bottom dive in LPs too. Long live ST style guitars Total utter perfection!
