Hi,
Am new to the site and would appreciate some input.....I am not a professional guitarist. And would call myself a 'hobby' guitarist which I enjoy immensely....I even enjoy playing scales. Lol
I already have an Epiphone Dot Studio. But with Xmas around the corner am looking to to expand my collection !!
Am looking at Epiphone Les Paul VE or SG VE vs HB CH range or HB TE range.
Is there anyone out there that owns the above guitars and speak from experience from owning the above guitars ?

I don´t own one of the mentioned guitars, but i would recommend you buy a guitar with single coils like the te-series for the new experience.

At best, a hobby guitarist like you. I've got an older Epiphone Les Paul Special 11 (2 x humbuckers) bought 2nd hand for not much money. You cant go wrong with one of those. The newer LE versions are virtually the same except poplar not mahogany. However to get something that's going to sound quite a bit different I'd get a Telecaster style (2 x single coils). I recently bought a TE30 from Thomann and it's excellent value for the money and beautiful to look at too.

TE-70 Black Paisley has been worth every penny and even more. Very comfy guitar to play and own.

I think any guitar from the TE series from the TE-30 and above are worth checking.
I own myself a TE-70 Rosewood and a TE-80, both are great guitars for the price. Especially, the TE-80 I received is perfect in everything, the only little issue is a ground loop in electronics, which can be easily fixed by rewiring and resoldering correctly. Something that I'll do during my next holidays.
I'm eyeing at the TE-30, TE-52 and TE-70 Black Paisley.

Recently bought a TE-52. Fantastic value and great sounding guitar. My other guitars are all hollow and semi-hollow with humbuckers or P90's, so it's a nice change to get a solid body with single coils.

Which alas IMO sounds nothing like a LP at all.

Hi,
Thanks for the relies to my posts.
To those of you that already have TE models. Did you have any issues regarding substandard components / build issues on the receipt of your guitar?
As it would seem after reading some of the reviews at Thomann. Most of the issues are regarding the tuners and bridge.
As there seems little point buying something new (but cheaply) and replacing components pretty much from the word 'go'. Or is that the purpose and aim:- because HB guitars are so cheap to purchase?
TBH I really have my sights on a TE52. Just for the look of it.....

Ah....so that's the difference between a LP Special II and LP LE....timbers used for manufacture....

Well Les Paul basically refers to the body shape. these SL's have single coil pick ups in a poplar body so will never give you the traditional Les Paul sound. But hey, for £89 what's not to like?

I buy to play not modify so I would never ever buy something that I was going to change this, that or the other. Yes occasionally you might get sent a rogue but Thomann's returns policy is very good. I agree, the TE 52 looks beautiful too though I gather it's a little heavier than the TE 30. That might not matter to some players.

Apparently there are issues with (wait for it....) the tuners and bridge ! Plus, guesstimated delivery is early December. Which is cutting it fine for Xmas ! Love the colourways on the SL range though. In particular, Sunset Yellow....really in yer face!
