After the HB TE-90FLT disappointment and with more and more HB models featuring the dreaded Blackwood fretboard and the Roseacer still not sounding right to me Im kind of looking at another brand thats cheap but OK.
Browsing through Thomann I've found the Epi LP Special thats very cheap (with Rosewood fretboard) and I can easily see myself buying those Duncan P90s in humbucker style for it!
The LP Special got very good reviews! Love the fact its made of light woods and maple screw on neck!
Is there more to it? Am I missing something important? All info welcome!

Have seen that one but Blackwood is Pine wood. Don't like the Blackwood on my HB Traveler. Feels very dry and soft-like. Almost like a cheap Spruce plank.

I think I must have missed it. What's wrong with Blackwood or Roseacre? Is it shoddy workmanship that people are reporting or it it a tonal thing?
Regarding the Epi - I'd be nervous about buying the bottom of the range EPI. They are more likely than Harley Bentons to be deliberately (in subtle and not so subtle ways) to be under-engineered in order to support the price differentials with more expensive models.
And how is fret access on a bolt-on neck LP shape?
On the other hand they do look nice and I'm sure could be made into great players if not already.
Edit...just noticed you answered the blackwood question.

Yes was looking at the HB Custom SG as it comes with all sorts of good stuff but I would hate the neck dive all SGs have! Im even looking at the CST 24 with wraparound bridge to add these P90s in but dunno about that Roseacer (never had one). Will look some more options

Yes was looking at the HB Custom SG as it comes with all sorts of good stuff but I would hate the neck dive all SGs have! Im even looking at the CST 24 with wraparound bridge to add these P90s in but dunno about that Roseacer (never had one). Will look some more options My SG-alike dives like a U-boat so will be having its button moved to the top horn on a very long screw. There's also something very off about the way it hangs on a strap that I don't like. It seems to roll away from me and be in the wrong position under my hands. Unless Harley Benton have addressed those issues I'd steer clear unless you want continued frustration. The extra weight of the third pickup might solve the neck dive but you'd still be left with those other things. It was for this reason that I decided against giving my Epi LP Junior rebuild a second cutaway on the top horn. I've never gelled with my LP Standard, there's something about the neck/bridge geometry that doesn't work for me, preferring the flatter lie of a tele but at least I know that strap button isn't in the wrong place. Any attempt to give my Junior a top horn like later Juniors would mean risking that balance. Not worth it for me. Oh and to answer saltee's question, top fret access is fine on my bolt on Junior. The rosewood board is lovely, hard, shiny rosewood. The fretting is good (the ends could use some slight dressing), the nut is fine, the chrome is a bit shiny for me but toilet cleaner and oven cleaner will fix that and the tuners are beyond awful and I've never had a problem with most. Tuning with them felt like opening a can of corned beef.

To be absolutely honest Im SOOOOO VERY HAPPY with my ST-62MN ... Blown away actually as how that guitar fits in my hands, against my body, the sound of those Ironstones and the 7 way swich , ... I mean I should just buy another one and mod it so I can bang into it 2 P90's in humbucker format. What a fabulous guitar which still has that thin cheapo trem sustain block and yet sings like a Mermaid Im not buying the "fat trem block gives more sustain" bull .... ! Yeah, would love to find a guitar with a hard, shiny, solid Rosewood without open pores! Or actually I dont mind HB starting to make CST and LP guitars with lacquered plain Maple fretboards! I would be a happy customer! So much better option than the Blackwood plank!

Just get a different colour 1 to mix it up Will likely do that but maybe next time ... this time Im going for the TE-70 BP and will order from eBay Tonerider Tele Vintage Plus pups and a 5 way Tele harness from Roadhouse (solderless). This should give me yet another great axe I think!

It was sold as roseacre which is meant to be thermally treated maple?. It's not as hard or as smooth as rosewood boards I have on cheap strats, I don't think it would as durable as rosewood either.the j60 is a nice guitar neck might be a bit chunky? I really like the Roswells, very crunchy when played hard. Nice cleans . My brother has it at he's place on loan.he would gig with it no problem he says. Came with rusty strings was the only fault.its still got the corn beef pick guard.how the wood feels is debatable what with the inlays, and my caloused flat as a top hat finger tips :/ also there is a slight neck dive.the pick ups are the hottest and loudest I have out of my 5 electrics with single coils.
