Hi all,
I've recently noticed that Thomann / HB is currently having guitars made in Vietnam. Does anyone have a problem with that or is it only me?
My feelings are that I'm not particularly worried about the country of origin but I really do not like the Made In Vietnam lettering on the reverse of the headstocks, which seems to be under the varnish and therefore unremovable. And it could make a budget guitar even harder to move on as a secondhand item. On the other hand Vietnam maybe become the new Korea. And, although I very much doubt that, Cory Mora on his fanfret review had nothing but praises for his made in Vietnam guitar.
I was wondering if all production was being shifted to Vietnam which, I would imagine, would be because the cost of production is lower than China. I'm currently eyeing up a CST24 HB and I would hate to think that would have the 'Made in Vietnam' lettering on the headstock reverse.

Hi Micoli, I have received recently 2HB SC Custom. One is new and made in vietnam. The second is a B stock made in China. The difference of quality is enormous ! The vietanmese guitare looks way much better. I've been told the Peavey's guitars were also made in Vietnam and were well finished also. So I don't believe that "made in vietnam" is detrimental if you want to sell your guitar as a second hand. Way less than "made in China" or, even worse, no country written which personally would make me fear the worst. I suggest you should try and order one and make your own idea. If you don't like it, Thomann will refund you without asking any question. I've done it couple of times

I had a blue CST deco guitar and the body was flawless yet quite heavey. So this is very good news. The bad news was the neck, it had a huge bow (hence deco instrument) but also the fretboard was quite dirty, badly fixed flaws with the inlays, scratches. If Thomann gets this right at least that CST is a real bargain.

A skilled workman (or woman or attack helicopter) is just that, although I suppose pay might be a factor in the quality of their work.
It’s something that always amused me about those coveted early Fenders, as I understand they were made by cheap Mexican labour.
Although I could be perpetuating a lie.

Hi all,
It seems then the opinions are on the side of Vietnam, which has at least allayed my fears. It was only that I was a bit concerned that, as opposed to Korea, Japan, and China, Vietnam has no industrial base to talk off and so lack the experience to make almost anything the west would want, (except maybe chop sticks as I can't eat a Chinese take-away without using chop sticks). But I suppose nowadays expertise and machine tools can easily be brought in. Also I don't really think that Thomann would take the risk of changing production without being confident in the outcome. So it looks like I will be ordering the CST24 HB very soon!

Hi I'm new. I've ordered an SC450 Plus VB which was supposed to be delivered in 2-5 days. Delivery is now later. 26.03.2018. Are these also now made in Vietnam? I saw the Made in Vietnam sticker on a SC-550 in another post. Doesn't look too nice, especially if it's permanent. Could be a little more discreet. Oh well, we will see.

Probably mine, but to be honest it's really well made for the price and I decided to name it Colonel Kurtz.

On happy with mine, I also like the choice of Korean hardware over Chinese Pot metal that many guitars get today.

I have a Vintage LP, that is as far as I know, made in Vietnam. It is far superior to MIC HB SC450 plus.

Does anyone know whether the production of other models will be successively shifted to Vietnam as well?

I just opened my SC-550 yesterday that has been back ordered since March 1st. The FIRST thing I noticed was the RoLLs marking on the back of the headstock along with “made in Vietnam”! I thought “WTH”? I thought these were made in China. I looked it over carefully, I mean SCRUTinized it. Let me be the one to tell you “you WANT it made in Vietnam” it is flawless and impressive, I mean IMPRESSIVE!!! From the new headstock logo to the fit and finish, to the AAAAA flame cap, to the sound and playability. This is destined to be one of those “oh, you want some of the first Bentons made in ‘Nam” deals. Check it out for yourself, Thomann takes them back with no hassles. I was going to order a CST-24T, but I’ll wait awhile to see if they start making them in Vietnam. #Truly blown away
