Out of curiosity. What species of "Blackwood" is being used on the HB guitars? Is it the African Blackwood, or Blackwood Tek, or some other material simply called Blackwood? Thomann listings just say "Blackwood". This is overly vague, possibly on purpose, which makes me think it may be nearly anything that is available. So, does anyone know what "blackwood" is being used on HB's? Just curious. It most certainly isn't the African let me tell you that I know Rosewood as many of you do. This HB Blackwood is dyed I'm sure as my finger tips were black after playing. Also the white cloth I used to oil it was pitch black! This is Pine big time! I could easily get into it with my nail! Soft piece of $&@#% !!! Keep well away from it sais I or do what you want

This black remains can either be comming from a dye, or be carbon residue from torrefaction .....

... New Zealand pine that is processed to harden and darken it and stabilize it. A Google search shows several guitar makers using it. There could be a cheaper Chinese version of some kind of blackwood.... The blackwood tek has developed some following among builders, which is good.
I agree that there may be a "cheaper Chinese version" on the market. Blackwood Tek (Tec), is really a process applied to a species, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the same basic process applied to a similar-ish species, getting a "similar" result. Since the term "blackwood" is a kind of a buzz-word, calling a similar process/species "blackwood" would be good/simple marketing. Maybe not honest, but in marketing... ha.
I've got the same model, older release c 2015.
At any rate, your guitar looks great, I hope you get years of riffs out of it!

I don't doubt you for a minute Papa with your 2015 450+ but after using Planet Waves cleaner and lemon oil conditioner I have to say there was no black on the white pieces of cloth I was using. Past the last fret I dug my thumb nail quite hard into the wood and it left a mark but not a dent. This gives me some hope that maybe something has changed for the better.

Keep well away from it sais I or do what you want HB may have straightened out a problem with older Blackwood… That's the way it goes. Early adopters get to find the problems which are solved in later iterations. Harley Bananas ripen with the customer People buying the new Fusion models get that funny retainer bar every reviewer has been complaining about and I wonder how this got past basic quality assessment if it's such an obvious issue. The same goes for these hard or stuck screws people have been reporting on recent fanfret models. If there is one lesson here, it is "do not buy the brand new Harley Benton models" rather than "stay away from this particular feature".
