Just in case this might be of any use to someone, I collected pictures of old models I could find. Old basses: Old guitars:

Didn't miss much then I guess. Most of those look really budget-y and janky even on first look, very much unlike (a lot of, but not all of) the current lineup. Of all of those (guitars) I like the E1335, FV430, MS25. A bunch of the basses look appealing as well, way more than the guitar ratio.

And you are probably right, as the first models were not appreciated like the actual ones, by far. It has only been a feww years since HB guitars began to be considered as a bargain..... and not all models deserve such an interest

I wouldn't expect hidden treasures in the past of the brand. It became known when it got good and I think it started with still current models like the ST-62 and the SC-450 Plus. Older models were discontinued for a reason.
I have an old B-400 FL and while it is not terrible, I intend to re-wire the electronics (which are mirroring the old 50s Les Paul wiring, but without a selector switch, making two tone controls an interdependent stupidity) and file the nut to bring the action down (1.5 mm around the 1st fret position is not what you want).

The 'gibson correct' shape L-400, L-450 plus. E-35 and S-580 (and the equivalent SG shape 3 pickup mahogany cream coloured version) are worth a punt.

But all were already produced while the "good side" of the brand history. Older models worth the buck are the FV430 and a Danelectro copy that wore 2 P90 ... not showing up in these pictures. Eastwood also made its own version ... at Estwood price :
EDIT : found it !

I remember they used to sell a white hard-tail humbucker loaded Mosrite copy too. Not too far back - maybe 2015 or thereabouts.

The Harley Benton was a straight copy of the Eastwood Hi-Flyer Phase 4.

Yup. Another old model that will command a premium (of sorts...at least resale price > new price) are 'Gibson correct shape' lefty Explorer copies.

Don't forget the Harley Benton BR-600cs. Rickenbacker copy, sort of. I have tried many original Rickenbacker guitars and liked none of them (and quite a few 12 strings). I mean how many times can you play Eight Miles High before you get tired of it? Rickenbacker are quite litigious when companies copy their dreadful designs. I don't think Harley Benton are offering these now.
