To be honest I like those tiny pots Tony Ironstone uses in his Tele harness. Still very firm and silent
The CST I have in the G&L 7 way harness started being schratchy after a few months.
Would be great if the Dunlops are noise free.

I've had scratchy pots. Turning them a few times solved it.

There must be two different things going on, then. I suppose one is maybe something like slight oxidation, a minor alteration of the surface of the resistive band which then wears out when the guitar is used again, while another is actual wearing out after much usage which cannot be repaired. But I'm really just guessing. The 38 year old pots on my Aria Pro II are completely silent. Those on my 2006 Ibanez SA were a little scratchy when I got it and no more.

All I did with the Ibanez was turn the volume pot back and forth until it stopped scratching. I did the same with the 5-way switch of another Ibanez which I think was bought and left mostly unused until I got it in apparent new state some 3 years later. The double EQ pot of my Squier Jazz Bass was scratchy for about three turns back and forth too. Another case of a guitar sold for lack of use which came almost new.

Does static electricity attract dust? I ask because dust appears where it is not supposed to be able to get, in electrical appliances. As a side note when I have had scratchy pots to deal with I have used a few blasts of compressed air (available in cans). This maybe overkill but I can't see the point of squirting cleaner/lubricant into the pot if there is a possible tiny amount of debris. To me that would just make the lubricant gloopy. But then I probably think/analyse things too much!
