I just discovered this and it can make any 4 conductor passive pickup active and I think it could be fun to try it on my L-450 + with Wilkinson passive pickups and I was informed on Seymour Duncan FB page that one of their blogger was working on a hack to make it selectable (by a selector or button) Imagin having the option to use any brand passive pickup as active/passive, it can even make single coil starts active Seymour Duncan BMP-1Long Blackout Modular
Video about it link
someone already tried it with Wilkinson pickups

Any passive pickup can be made active by adding a preamp. Most active basses are passive pickups with a preamp.
An actual active pickup receives power (usually 9 or 18v) directly.
Also, any passive pickup can be wired with a switch to bypass the preamp (making it passive).

Looks interesting, especially because I wanted to use Seymour Duncan SH-6 (B) and Jazz (N) in one of my guitars.

JAC I did not know it was that easy but for me just replacing the volume pot and output jack makes it more simple for me with almost no soldering. EvolatoR I've just ordered the SSH-JB Hot Rodded witch are close to the same as the setup you'r going for. I will try this Blackout preamp in the R-458 that has Black Winter pickups and if I like the result I will probable get some more for other guitar.
