What is the RAT amp you posted a photo of? Cannot imagine how they got safety certification to sell that in EU...

RAT Valve amps do upgrades and mods to other amp manufacturers. They always make an interesting read. The Bugera V5 has been given a going over by them as well but they no longer sell these two amps. Here's the full RAT SubZero article. As is the usual case with the undisciplined internet, there is no date applied to the article so we have no idea how long ago this occurred. Personally, I'm getting tired of reading articles, only to discover, at some point, that it was written in 2003! The internet is only young. Will we still be reading news from 2007 in 2083 and not have any clue that we are doing so? Just read that article, **** me they only kept the box by the sound of it. I have a subzero 1x10 cab and the finish is superb. If it had looked like the mitres on the one in their pictures I would have sent it back. I look at stuff like that where they slag an item off and supposedly gut it and rebuild it, then put their badge on it. I would have to ask why are you going to all that effort to make something apparently so poor into something you put your name on. Would it not be quicker and cheaper not to build your wonder product from scratch? Sorry but I have to be very sceptical of that article.

They simply stopped selling them and the Bugera V5. We know not when nor really why, particularly since all of the problems are 'fixed' by RAT. Unless the finish was still so poor that he felt he couldn't sell them. But when was this? Well if you purchased the subzero from gear4music you got their returns policy. Not sure if that's 14 or 30 days. Most of us check the equipment thoroughly I can't see them being that poor. They would be returned in vast numbers and discontinued.

Yeah I can see the Bugera is a totally different amp. Before I bought my subzero cab I did research like most people do. Yeah there were a few horror stories but they were vastly outweighed by good reviews. I know a speaker cab is not an amp but you haven't got to take it completely apart to assess the build quality (I'm not teaching you to suck eggs). I used a small mirror and torch through the open back part of the cab to check and you can normally get your hand in to have a feel. The RAT example, the guy says there were parts stuck to speaker magnet. Tbh if I saw that it would be going back without looking at anything else. Fortunately I have not yet had an amp/cab that has a closed back. If I did get one I would use the elastic band trick removing the screws so as not to mark them. I read similar reviews of people slating the Bugera BC15 but again there were more good reviews. I'm sure the same can be said a lot of gear. I'm always sceptical of reviews a little over the top negatively likewise ones that are too positive. I can only speak from my experience, both the Bugera & Subzero build quality I have are very good, the sound quality however is a matter of personal taste. I read the scare stories of Bugera being unreliable and prone to dying but I take that with a pinch of salt. You will always get the odd one in any brand that is a lemon which makes people more likely to write a review. Tbh I put reviews on this forum but I don't put the on manufacturer/seller websites.
Anyway enough of my waffling, I hope the amp is superb in both build quality and sound, I hope it does what you want it to.

Sorry to go off topic, keep meaning to say cheers for the heads up on the Squier book. It was a very good read and informative, unbelievable the Chinese not once but twice saved their arses financially! Also the excellent reference part in the back of the book.

I might look for that book myself. Did someone mention basses? I saw one of those Vision bass guitars in pawn shop last week. Similar to what Gear4music sell. Sixty euro. It looked quite nice actually. Gave it a reasonably good insection without picking it from the stand and saw no obvious flaws. It was a natural color jb-10 model. I would find a photo but I am struggling with my tablette at the moment.
