Thanks blablas! Will do some more tests but I think it could me one of the 3 pre-amp tubes thats gone bad. I have switched their positions and now the tone is much better, the harmonic content is back and not much distortion

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Nope! I can't use ANY knobs when in Return! NONE AT ALL! I have tested Master on Zero and still the amp is as loud if the Master is on full! Meaning none of the knobs work if Im in Return on this OLD Bugera version (blue light, non-infinium). The nicest tone is into the preamp section by far! I really need those pre-tubes work their magic! I only have this Bugera V55 and that little Harley Benton CG15. 1 1/2 amps really Now you see why Im stressing to get another SS amp to get another tone and another amp in case my Bug stops working one day. This is interesting. My experience of master volumes is that they are there simply to control the volume of the amp AFTER everything else has passed through the amp, so AFTER the effects loop. The louder you turn it the more you are pushing the power amp's output. That's how it works on my Fender Champ so I assumed the same would hold for the Bugera. After your post I tried my Bugera and, true enough, the master volume is BEFORE the loop. I'm trying to understand why. Is this so that the level can be changed to different effects equipment in the loop? To switch between line level and instrument level? It seems that there is no fixed place for the master volume on amps. To me it seems a real shame that it is not AFTER the loop because it means the power amp has no volume control of its own; it needs a volume pedal before it or else it must be controlled by the guitar's volume knob or some output control on an fx pedal. Interestingly I was swapping outputs from the Bugera and the Champ today and found that the Bugera's speaker sounded better than I thought it would when receiving the preamp signal from my Champ's solid state preamp through the Bugera's EL84 power amp but still receiving all of the eq and REVERB effect from the Champ. Lovely and big and musical. The same couldn't quite be said for the other way around. The Bugera's tube preamp into the Champ's 6L6 power amp and speaker did not seem so nice although I didn't mess with the EQ much. It just sounded weaker. I have yet to try the American Sound pedal as a preamp directly into the power stages of either amp to see how THAT sounds. Could be interesting. Every day we learn something new (especially if we switch the TV off!). So much more to find out and understand.

I think those Turbosound speakers are very full sounding, not much missing there. I liked the one in my ex- Bugera V5. I find the Bugera (the old one) speker to lack in deffinition a bit and lacks low end which is there but not clear, is what Im trying to say. It also handles Mids bad, the amp sounds like a box when I up the mids. Its all about finding the right speaker for your amp it seems. Looking forward to this JS-1250 speaker !
