I must have been lucky with the jatoba on my SC550 any darker and it would be almost black. Cheers @manxcat for the info I have been umming and arghing as to whether to get the the SC450 gold top P90 but the Blackwood fretboard has put me off. Although I must say the Blackwood on my JA60 is OK, I have wondered if having large inlays masks the Blackwood a touch in both appearance and feel? If they are staining the wood it's a bit strange, normally the buyers select those timbers on appearances. Maybe in Asia it's different and they buy without seeing the timber?

Could be commercial decision based upon demand and supply? Conditioning expectation of Rosewood and Ebony over so many years, lighter shades being universally unpopular = cheaper. Manufacturers' buyers taking advantage of this where there's a choice exists, and staining Ferro, Jatoba et al to the consumer appealing darker shade keeping costs down for sufficient margins for manufacturer and Thomann whilst retaining a keen price to the consumer? Who would know without publication of the facts, and I don't suppose either of the aforementioned are about to tell us.
At least they're real wood veneers and not thermally treated or compressed 'Techwoods'.

I'm with you on the real woods, not that these thermally/cooked woods don't have their uses. I'd rather a proper hardwood as a fretboard. I like a bit of grain or figure visible I know there are those that want black or dark so the guitar is colour coordinated. I suppose that makes it easier to match your dress. 😜

I find no fault in compressed or treated woods. Blackwood has been just fine for a year now, so I don't expect it to ever move. My only gripe with it was its charcoal like appearance which is only noticeable up close, not in normal usage. I'd rather have that than the lighter brown of some Jatoba depending on the colour combination and I'm not about to buy any of the hyped Roasted Turd to play on Mars.
The black Roseacer of my SC-7 looks great. The lighter one of my CST-24HB not so much, I wish it were darker for more contrast with the inlays but at least it's not the colour of fresh excrement.
Pau Ferro can have an orange tint. As light Jatoba, it will look good on black guitars and mostly terrible on natural finishes. I'm curious about Lemon Drop, want to see it first.

Jatoba is ruining the look of Ibanez as well. Look how poorly it fits the shirt:

Actually the body looks a bit turd like too in that pic with Henning. Looks much nicer in the pic on the right to me. That's right. He wasn't sent the nicest one. One more reason for never buying such models unseen. The official product pictures do not look that great either:

The same fingerboard looks good on a black guitar:

You're not supposed to watch TV while playing I quite like that "Weathered Black" actually, but I would go with the S model, as always. It also has Jatoba but there seems to be some variance, as this one was very dark:
