Browsing through customer reviews, I keep seeing the statement that stock strings coming with Harley Benton basses are "terrible", "to be replaced" and so on while there is the occasional counter-opinion.
Are they really terrible or is just a pure matter of taste? And are they any different from the "Harley Benton Value Strings" Thomann sells separately?
I usually dismiss the systematic "stock stuff is junk" that every prejudiced comes up with but it doesn't make it wrong.

It was my understanding that the majority of HB models were shipping with DiMarzio strings.

They're the scatterwound type, right? Not sure what to think of those…

Not that I know of. Or, at least, I can't remember anyone complaining about rust.

I had corroded plain D'Addario strings on my SC-7 and ST-62 (which I bought used but they had coloured ball ends and I suspect these were the original strings). I never saw this on Harley Benton strings or on new roundwound.
I am considering a 6 string, so I need to decide whether to get a spare C string right away. I guess a spare Pyramid 0.030 wouldn't be wrong anyway. I have spare 5 string sets already.

Are bass ones never rusty? The guitar ones seem to always be reported as such. When the 7 string bass was first released a couple of folk complained about rust. Course given the limited need for a 7 string bass those sets may well have been ancient

Course given the limited need for a 7 string bass those sets may well have been ancient The F string is usually a plain one. Mine came with a guitar string which I replaced with a Pyramid wound 0.020. I won't ever be buying 7-string sets, a standard 5-string set and single strings for the C and F is the way to go. I see the C string is usually a 0.032 but Warwick have a 0.025 in their 6-string sets. Now that's a significant difference, from 39 lbs down to 24 on a 34" scale. (I'm using funny units because that's what the D'Addario calculator returns by default). 24 is the top of guitar territory. The 0.042 A string of a set of 11s gets to 25.6 lbs on a Strat' and the rest is around 19. Anyway, I wonder why Warwick are going so far down in tension for the C string.

It was my understanding that the majority of HB models were shipping with DiMarzio strings. That'll be D'Addario. The question is of course directed at models which do not specify a string brand in their product description. I would naturally assume stock strings would come from the same source as the Harley Benton ones, only without silk and with the occasional C string but the question remains worth asking. They still could be sourced differently depending on the factory making the instruments. Interesting fact: the BZ-7000 specifies no string brand while the 6000 promises D'Addario and the 7-string comes with lighter D to C strings. BZ-6000: D'Addario .032 - .045 - .065 - .080 - .100 - .130 BZ-7000: .017 - .025 - .040 - .060 - .080 - .100 - .130 I am considering a B-650FL.
