I just noticed new bridges on the B-450FL and B-550 FL replacing the monorails still shown on the B-650FL. The fretted versions, black, white or QTB still show the old monorail configuration. I suppose they will all be replaced.

Hi Leo, Hi folks, I guess I just caused some trouble in Thomanns Guitarstore and Webmaster's office. Sorry for that, but I've been there last week (350 km from my hometown - one way autobahn!) to check out some HB-Bases. After playing over 40 years 12-string and 6-string guitars I wanted to find out what bass would please me (4-, 5-, 6-string, fretless or not ...). Anyway: I drove home with an B-650FL, black as black can, beautiful I tell you. I checked it out all night and always sudden I found exakt this difference as shown above. No mono-rails on my bigship as I wished to have and were (!) shown on the hompage of Thomann. Well I mailed the man who sold it to me, first got no answer for 4 days and then send it back to Thomann. This was not what I had wanted, but I was comparing an' looking at all the other guitars so I did not realize the difference. But worse than that: The guy who sold it to me had to excuse himself, 'cause he didn't know this change of an - to my opinion - very important part of that instrument himself. Harley Benton had not informed "Big T" about this up- or downgrade! Who knows? 2 Days after all those pictures showing the mono-rails disappeared from Thomann's homepage and were replaced by only one. They now call it "similar image" Even the B-650FL has only one "similar picture" left, no other pictures with closeups no more ;(.
My question to this society here is: What is your opinion? Is that new "all-in-one"-bridge better than the former mono-rails? Two or three other brands point out that mono-rails, say seperated peaces of a bridge, do not interfer with other strings and therefore garantee a clear, transparent and differentiated sound. Let me know what you think and what is all behind this change, Thomann allegedly did not know 'till I showed up

This is funny. I "knew" it was coming the day I saw the new bridges on the 4 and 5 string models. Now, surely not everyone in the Thomann staff gets all the information at the same time but those who made and changed the product pictures two weeks ago knew something. Only the seller on the ground floor in the shop didn't. Now it seems the change has come to the 6 string and I expect it to come to the fretted models too. Oh yes, it does come, all other models have lost their product pictures as well. Now, to the technical question about the bridge type, I don't believe in the voodoo subtleties of string separation or whatever else these things are said to do. No one would hear it or even care if they did. Those who sell them obiously point out "serious advantages". Of course, there is no way of telling if the new bridge is an improvement of any sort. I'm pretty sure it's cheaper, if only in mounting time, and I see on the pictures that intonation can now be adjusted without lifting the string from the saddle, so that's at least one advantage for the player.

I agree with Leo, whether the bridge is better or worse for the player is a personal opinion. From a QC point of view, they only have one part they need to align instead of 6 and obviously that takes less time also, so it is cheaper to fit it by approximately 0.03€
