I will choose but at least among mine no guitar that has splittable humbuckers sounds like a strat, A minute difference of absolutely no importance when compared to the difference between humbuckers and single coils. Coil split does the job.

I don't think a beginner needs too much of this detail. They just need to find an instrument and amp combo that they really gel with. I would agree. Then I would also say that single coils and any modelling amp would do the trick, since a "humbucker-like" sound can be achieved through EQ while the other way around is not possible. The days when single coils were too weak to drive an amp into distortion are long gone. This was 1965. Now we just turn the gain on the cheap thing and a Strat' copy can sound like Clapton's Les Paul at bedroom level.

But to say that just a modeling amp and any guitar with splittable humbucker is enough seems too simplistic. It has the required character. That's enough.

You guys are lucky to be starting out in this "age". I took lessons at 8. The guy bored me to death playing standards (Over the meadow and down the lane). I quit, and started again at 13. My teacher taught me chords the first day. You can learn any song, chord, scale or theory that you want online. And it's free!!! ENJOY!
