The wife wants you to buy the Fender. Just so you don't come with 10 more toys to keep somewhere in the house within the next two years.

The TE-52 is just £115, that is incredible. I can't buy another guitar (famous last words), I'll have to move some on first. Besides my partner has been on a Ukelele collecting spree, she only started playing the UKE last year, and has 4 and still scouring the online uke shops for others... It's getting crowded in here.
On strimgs, the HB Te-90qm came with D'Addario 9-42 and they were good, not rusty or gunged up in any way, quite shiny and snappy. I've changed them recently, not because they were getting dull but to try out the D'Addario balanced tension sets , 9,12,15,22,30,40.

I just bought a case for my last bass. And yes, it is quite incredible that people would spend hundreds or even over a thousand for a Telecaster.

I just noticed that Fender is listed at 14.5 times the price of the Harley Benton on the Fender site and 11.5 times at Thomann. Get it from Thomann, it's a bargain ...then 'upgrade' the pickups! I put some old 70s Fender pickups in a guitar recently and really don't like them at all. Not for MY ears. Must be something with Fender. I had a TE-30 (I think- tele copy, top loader bridge), and I decided to put Fender pickups in it. And I hated them. I ended up pulling them out and swapping them with a set of $35 Fleor cheapies. The $35 set was alnico and sounded so much more defined. I added an orange drop capacitor, and I'm way happier. Fender pickups are so bloody noisy, or at least this lot were. They were so bad, I hope it was because someone sold me a bootleg set of squier pickups!

They were ceramic magnets; they sounded OK, but I didn't love them. Couldn't say why. Could have been vague "dislikes" that were subconscious snobbery. I will say that the fender ones were way worse. Yesterday, my CST 24T and SC-450 (GT w/P90s) came in. I don't intend to mod either of those. Heck they were even almost in tune when they arrived.

Before you replace pick-ups, do play with their height. It can make a significant difference to tone. I got much happier with the Roswell LAF of my SC-450 Plus and CST-24HB by taking them down for improved clarity.
And if that still doesn't help, consider adjusting the electronics around them first. Changing the value of the volume pot can make pick-ups brighter or darker and a treble bleed will preserve the high end when playing at less than full volune. These are cheaper changes.

I love this video. The guy hates Telecasters, just as I do, for the very same reasons, and yet he bought one. Maybe I should do just the same.

Behind my corporate fire-wall, I can't see the video, BUT if it's the one I think it is, it's an old British guy who calls his telecaster "old fugly here." I used to look at teles as just stupid and I hated them. Now, they're practically all I play. But I laughted my you-know-what off laughing at how serious he was when he called that guitar "old fugly here."
Your other points about adjusting pickup height and treble bleed are well taken. I like to mess with that now. Before I'd just rip the pickups out and replace them. Which in hindsight is like going nuclear immediately. One of the best buys ever was an Ibanez Guitar tool. like 20 bucks and it's a Swiss army knife of awesomeness. So a lot of times, I'll start with what the manufacturer suggests and adjust accordingly. It's amazing the difference that can make.

That's the one. The guy is great. Scottish. Lovely accent too. I used to work with a Scottish guy named Sandy. Yes, it's a male first name there. I had to get used to his dialect. Pick-ups build a system together with the controls around them. The larger the value of the volume pot, the higher the cutting frequency. If the sound is dull, double the size of the volume pot. If it's harsh halve it. Pots cost a couple of Euros at worst.

Celtic peoples have this weird thing about naming boys girls names. I worked with a guy named Erin. That was weird. Have you thought about doing instructional or informational youtube stuff? You've got a ton of knowledge!
