Very nice review. Interesting to see these are getting lighter. 4.2 Kg? They used to be between 5 and 6. Wood is a strange thing. No, hang on, they must be made of forcefully grown wood from greenhouse trees submitted to artificial UV light on a 24 hour basis. It's going to shrink, I'm sure. Please keep watching it

The weight is the worst thing about it. I pick up my very light in comparison PB-20 more often than the JB-75 because of that.

I heard the 21 fret version was heavy, but the new ones should be lighter. I wonder because they look astonishing and I'm thinking to buy one. Tnx.

Yep... I just bought one and it weighs 5.6kg (12.5 lbs). That is the only negative aspect about this bass, though. It's built to very high tolerances (I owned an American Standard Fender that wasn't built as tight as this bass). It sounds frickin' fantastic! I always replace the pickups in import guitars/basses... Not this time. In fact, I want to buy a couple of sets of Roswell pickups to use in my builds/mods. They sound as good as any set of Fender pickups I've heard, and I've heard a lot (Fender is my preferred brand for bass pickups). The fretwork on mine is perfect... No high or wonky frets, no sharp ends. I usually expect to have to do at least a little fret filing (if not a full-on level) on an import instrument... Again; not this time. Even the hardware is good quality. The tuners feel more expensive than they are (solid and smooth operating), and the bridge is a heavy-gauge plate with big brass saddles. I was going to put a Gotoh 201 on it that I had lying around, but don't really think it will make a difference, except to maybe add a few more grams to the weight. I haven't looked at the electronics yet, and I'm pretty sure what I'm going to find, but the pots work well and feel decent. I'll probably upgrade them at some point, but as long as they work fine, they can stay.
The weight doesn't really bother me as much as I thought it would (like yourself, I had heard these current JB-75s were lighter too). I've had some back problems in recent years and I was afraid it might cause me pain to play it while standing, but I use a 3" padded strap and I'm fine. I've played it for over an hour with no signs of discomfort, let alone pain. I've returned heavy guitars in the past because I would get muscle spasms in my back when on a strap, but basses balance differently. The weight is distributed over a longer area, so you don't feel like you have a cinder block hanging around your neck. Sitting down, it doesn't really bother me at all, but still, I have plans to affect some weight relief to the body under the pickguard with some Forstner bits. Might be able to shed a pound or so off it.
