Thanks to JAC setting up this board I've just spent a very enjoyable evening playing my JB-75. Now mine's is the slightly older model with the faux tort scratch plate and the rosewood fretboard. Still an inlaid 20 fret maple neck with binding, white in this case. Then as now it came with Wilkinson pickups and hardware strung with D'Addario strings,I think they're EXL 170's The satin finished Jazz neck has a 38mm plastic nut and is easy to play. The 2 piece ash body is well finished and together it weighs a healthy 11 lbs or 5Kg.This of course will vary,no wood is a consistent weight. As to how it plays ? It's great no doubt about that. Tonight I used it to play some fairly modern punk and with both vol up and the tone about 7/8 and horror of horrors using a pick it fit right in. Handling some aggressive playing very well. Then came the best part of the night.I put on Killer by Alice Cooper and the JB-75 nailed Dennis Dunaways' Jazz Bass sound perfectly. To me that's the litmus test on Jazz basses and it passed in flying colours. For a crazy small price the JB-75 delivers, none of that " For the price " rubbish if you want a Jazz bass that plays well and more importantly sounds like a Jazz bass, well this does. If you must have a different logo on the headstock start saving, those decal must cost a lot.

The JB-75 must be good, seeing that you can still find it amongst that mass of Peaveys!

It's easy.
The Peaveys fill one half of the room, I just have to turn left or right:)

Ok , so I thought Id add my two cents worth to this review . Ive had the bass now for a few weeks and Ive really bonded with it . So much so , the guitars haven't left their cases since I got it . The neck is fairly chunky which Im glad of as it makes for a more comfortable grip , imh . Its silky smooth . The frets are nicely finished although I did give them a polish when I changed the strings . Talking of strings , they were a set of D'Addario roundwounds which were new when it arrived , Ive since changed these for D'Addario chromes flats , which Im loving at the moment and now cant see myself going back to rounds as Im not keen on that zingy buzzy sound . The intonation was perfect from the box and it was nearly in tune ! Not bad considering its gone from Germany to Central Scotland . The neck is very snug in the pocket with no gaps and is bound and block inlaid , and is rather tastefully done . The body is a gorgeous piece or three of ash and the grain pattern is lovely . The pickups are absolutely superb and have plenty of punch , they are as clean as a whistle when needed but using more gain and a pick and you can get a great rock/metal tone . The tone control actually works and shapes the sound as well as varying the volumes on the pups . The bridge is very good quality and Id go as far as saying , its better than a Mexican Fender . Its fully adjustable in terms of intonation and height . The tuners work well and arent too stiff or slack although to be honest , I prefer the smaller sealed tuners but they probably wouldnt look right on this instrument . Now the downsides . Its a rather heavy beast which I already knew as Id played Kodiakblairs before mine arrived . Having said that I swear mine feels slightly lighter than his . Im not going to be gigging for hours so this makes no real difference anyway . The only other downside is that its a little head heavy . Although on the strap if feels ok . Overall Im very very happy . In fact Im hooked on it and struggle to put it down at times . Ive been playing anything from Cream to Motorhead , Ben E King to Queen and Maiden and its handled it all with ease . How the hell can Thomann sell these so cheap ? Its crazy . So there you go my first and certainly not my last HB , now I want a P bass in black with a maple board ;-)

Just bought myself a jb75sb off gumtree, looking forward to bonding with it at band practice this week. I used to have a pb50 which I foolishly sold, this seems even nicer.

I'm interested in this JB75 NA as a guitarist. Do you thik it would be a good choice as a jack of all trades ?

I think that a Jazz bass is a good option for a variety of tones, and particularly good if you want it to play alone a lot. However, if you want it to just grab it on occasions to jam or play with a band, you may find a precision just sounds "right".
Another thing to consider is the width of the neck, the Jazz basses (in their majority) have thinner necks, it depends on how you like your necks.
A good idea would be to call in a music store and try a couple of different basses and find what you think is comfortable. Then you will know what HB will (probably) fit you better.
As far as tones, on a Jazz you get a lot of options, and even more options on pickups if you decide the stock ones don't meet your needs.
