Quick question,
I currently have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, 2008, and I experience significant microphonic feedback with high gain settings.
Wondering if anyone's gotten a Harley Benton, and had that unbearable screeching sound when playing.
Would ya'll say the SC-550 would be capable of playing live performances outta the box or would the pickups need to be swapped?
thanks,
-Elliott

My little nephew has an Epiphone 2010 Les Paul Standard (should be roughly the same as yours), so I have experience with playing it as we jam together from time to time. Imho, the Epi's weakest point is its pickups. I'm inclined to say that the Roswell pickups in current Harley Benton SC-550 guitars are vastly superior!! I've had several humbucker guitars over the past 27 years, and I find these Roswells really good sounding, compared to most other stock pickups. They're well made, sound pretty balanced and (at least mine) are certainly not microphonic. I've never felt the need to upgrade them. Go for it. The SC-550 will make you happier.

Honestly, I replaced the pickups on the 2 epi with pro buckers but only because those supplied were too dark not because they had the microphone effect. On the sc450 + I changed the roswells to wilkinsons for the opposite reason which were too light. Obviously it depends on your tastes but between roswell and epi pickups I prefer the latter.
