Hi guys, just picked up my first HB after a life with Squiers and other brands.
I bought a Squier Bullet Strat last week and, that was simply the biggest POS I've ever had pass thru my hands. I'm a bass player learning guitar, had a LOT of basses over the years from high end to low end (no pun intended) but never had a bad Squier to be fair in the mid to low price purchases.
With this in mind I bought a new Squier Bullet strat hardtail and what a let down it was a right pig.....an action I could limbo dance even under after a set up, a strange loose 'not feeling quite right' truss rod, ****ed 'n high frets up the dusty end and, a bridge design that really isn't fit for purpose, with the intonation screws butting up against the strings.
Paint finish was good, no burrs on frets but, the skunk stripe had a bit missing and there were blue pen marks on the rear of the neck with more on the high frets....theres a story there somewhere...how did this thing get thru QC I'll never know?
Well it's gone back to Thomann so here's hoping their after sales service is as good as they say it is.
Last night:- On Gumtree up popped a few weeks old HB ST20 CA HSS with the mock rosewood described as 'as new' but, with the added benefits of the owner doing a sweet shielding job on it and, fitting new quality strings. £45 all in!
.....just picked it up and I am totally amazed, blown away, stunned insert hyperbole here, at the quality of this guitar.
Beautiful finish all over, great neck, not too thick as I thought it maybe, really sweet fretboard and the action is incredible, it is as a low as a snakes belly in a rut without the mearest hint of fret buzz.
The sounds are great too, way hotter pups than the Bullet with no hum (to be fair it is shielded) and the rear humbucker pup has the most excellent good ole country boy 'Tele twang' I've heard well, erm, err, this side of a puka Tele which is a very pleasant surprise being as though a Tele has a single coil at the bridge
Maybe I got a good one, peachs n pigs come to mind but, I'm proper made up with this purchase, way to go Harley Benton, great job.....and this is THE cheapest strat they do I believe, simply incredible value.
I think guitars and basses are a bit like Harry Potters wands, they sorta find you, this cheap as chips strat is a keeper.
