Can you feel the coating on elixirs, You are joking, right? - Not joking, fresh Elixirs are much more slippery.
Does the package look like it should? Does it say coated on the package? - Package looked fine and said: ‘Coated strings’
Do they sound good? - They pretty much sound like any other strings I’ve tried.
Interesting to see if they can last as long as elixirs - That’s the $64,000 question. A set of Elixirs last about a year for me, D’Addarios 2 months and Ernie Balls about 10 days before they constantly sound out of tune.

Yeah my experience as well with D Addarios and Ernie Ball, Balls, as soon as they are put on, almost immediatily they become old, DAddaros slightly better, I actually think GHS last longer than both D Addario and Erne Ball from memory. Yes interesting to see how long the HB coated strings will last

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Will do. If the strings are as good as Elixirs, you should hear from me again in about December 2021 ....

Hi everybody,
I've just recently got a HB-35 and I'm really happy with it after a slight adjustment (the nut was cut pretty badly on it I thought, not a problem as I had always planned to replace it to something sturdier anyway). I was thinking I might end up replacing the tuners on it at some point down the line, but I couldn't find anywhere which stated the dimensions of the headstock holes. Obviously I'd prefer something which would be able to drop in rather than have to drill, so has anyone made this upgrade before and can advise?

HB-35 is using classics tuners that you screw in the hole (some HB are using relatively-nonstandard-sized pressed-in bushings) and for me it was standard ~10mm hole. So something like Grover 135 should fit directly in (maybe the back screw could be in different position (or it needs a two screws), but that is easier fix than to drill through the headstock).
Edit: For me the most exciting (and low-cost) update was to chage the ceramics magnets in the pickups to spare Alnico V.

Will do. If the strings are as good as Elixirs, you should hear from me again in about December 2021 .... I've had the HB coated strings on the guitar for about 6 months now - they still feel good, sound good and stay in perfect tune. Definitely an amazing value for the money. Think I will order some more sets, and try them on my other guitars as well.

I've had the coated strings on my HB-35 for over a year now, and they are now starting to wear out and go out of tune quickly. Time for a fresh set! I honestly can't tell a real difference between them and Elixirs. Very good value for the money.
I haven't performed in over a year, so I have no idea whether they sound as good as Elixirs in a band situation.

Off-topic question - let me know if inappropriate and I'll make separate thread.
The HB-35 vs the HB-35 plus - the latter is listed with a 42mm nut versus a 43mm nut on the 'standard' HB-35. Does anyone know if the actual neck dimensions are identical and one could just exchange the 42mm nut on the plus model for a new 43mm nut?

For some reason I haven't been able to tune the HB-35 lately. When I play chords, everything sounds a bit wonky, which drives me nuts.
I thought maybe it was the 4-month old Thomann coated strings, so I took them off and replaced them with Elixirs - same problem.
I dropped the guitar off at my luthier yesterday - he took a quick look and said: 'The guitar needs a set up, no big deal.'
Curious how it plays when I get it back.
