Back up my Hard Drive? How do I put it in reverse?

I bought a Fender HH Strat about a year ago and it was a keeper. 12" radius neck and nice frets with sweet pickups. I had one pop up for sale at one of my preferred dealers. One tiny scuff and the nut wasn't seated right. Easy fix, saved hundreds.
Factory stock just like the one I bought before. Sounds nothing like the first one. Changed the strings and it was better but still nothing like the first one. One is red one is black. I know that is the reason many want to try before buying. But we all buy off the internet and a major brand should be more consistent than the cheaper models. Don't get me wrong its not a bad Guitar just way different. I guess its a mod platform... If I did not own the first one I may have never noticed the huge difference in the same model.

I may have thrown off your research by not mentioning the black has little gold flakes in it or is it pearl? Naa the red is metallic too.. or is it pearl?
When I get around to it I'll open up and look at the pots and capacitor and see if the pick ups are the same if marked with a part number. Maybe it got a wrong capacitor. If I get really bored I could do a full swap on the electronics. Even move the strings... Might be the only way to make me believe the difference is in the neck and body wood. I was going to swap the strings again but got a shipment of 4ft LED bulbs for my shop lights. Florescent to LED with ballast delete is the way to go.. 60% less power and better light. Had to do that first at least a few. Years ago that was a expensive upgrade now its about the same price as the old florescent tubes. Glad to see those go away..

Don't kid yourself. Fender and consistent don't belong in the same state never mind sentence When folks complain about Fender QC the common reply from old hands is "Live with it, a replacement may well be worse" Leaving aside the vagaries of Fender quality, there's materials.Timber cuts vary within the tree let alone between different trees. Take your non consistent organic material. Forebye age and drying conditions there's construction. May be 1 body was 3 pieces and the other 5,those piece might not come from the same tree. Guitar companies buy timber in by the cubic metre pallet. How much Bondo was used before spraying ? Move on to pickups and electrics. All are built within +/- tolerances, could be 5% or could 10%. There's tolerances with everything from magnets to wire to caps. Just some food for thought .

I sort of see this as a unwelcome learning opportunity. I put a third set of stings on it today. Have not had a chance to fire it up yet. I try to show the household pets some respect when they are snoozing on top of the towel covered Amps. I think they have that figured out and are taking advantage of me. The good part about this is it is a fender so you pull the pick guard and the wire to the ground and input jack and a full swap is easy. I have never been a full believer of the magical combination of body and neck. Perhaps this will make a believer out of me. However I have a cheap GIO series Ibanez that does seem to be one of those rare miracles. I bought it used for $65.00 and it was missing the Tremolo arm. Best $65.00 guitar ever.I think that one was a miracle mix. I have a major dealer here that has a wonderful overly generous 2 year warranty. They take back guitars from buyers for a complaint and sell the returns. They either have idiot Techs or just take the customers word and take it back. I have been quite happy with some of those. I got a Ibanez S series that was supposed to have a warped neck and truss rod problems. Easy to believe with that super thin flat neck. I rolled the dice on it and found the Truss rod adjusted full forward and a Floyd Rose in full miss adjusted revolt. Leveled the neck with no string tension and the neck was normal. Adjusted the Floyd Rose properly and there is nothing wrong with the guitar. I like a good fight now and then if the chance of a win is there. The Floyd Rose Tremolo has brought many a guitarist to the brink if you don't understand them. $600.00 Ibanez for $160.00 and 2 hours work is a win to me. Worse outcome would have been a aftermarket neck on it.

Third set of stings made a huge difference. I have no idea what it came with but the strings had color ball ends like D'Adario but did not look like that brand or sound like them. Probably knock offs. The next set was a known brand and better but very Blaaaah. I won't mention the brand to avoid offending some true believers. I happened to have some GHS thin core Boomers which are made in the US which have been good on other guitars I have. So I put a set of 09 to 42 on it. Huge difference! Even the vibration transfer in the Maple neck was better. It has a nice Tusq nut so it should but sure didn't with the other strings. With the better strings I have been able to notice the Tone pot is very limited in range. Time to look at that and the capacitor. The factory pickups are ok for now since they are working with other issues to hide what they can do.
